Meditation : Spirituality: History of Religions - in 1 easy book
My church did a congregation wide book study of this masterwork and I've given away a number of copies and will always keep my own copy that is marked up and autographed. John Selby spoke in person and was as delightful as his writing. It is a straight forward explanation of our world belief centers based on his own fascinating adventuresome life of inquiry. I learned history that was never explained in a university level History of Religions class and my own lifetime interests in world religions. For example, I didn't realize that Mohammed was the only primary religion founder who was also a political leader due to his birth, and how that might have impacted his teachings. This book provides a very compassionate, open and clearminded, easy and enjoyable read. Plus there are memorable meditations, websites and videos to support it. I highly recommend it for individuals and group study. 12 stars if possible for this classic!

Meditations with timeless teachings
I 've had a daily meditation practice for a few years. This book provides diverse teachings of seven spiritual teachers that all come down to practicing presence and ultimate awareness. I was aware of the power of presence, but this book deepened my understanding of it, and the history was interesting. I found the chapter on witnessing, or observing the observer, to be most the most challenging. I don't know if I was doing it right, but I'm going to keep practicing. I feel like it will click eventually. I appreciate the meditation scripts so I can incorporate them into my practice.

Good content, but...
I have found his discussions of the Seven Masters very educational. I don't exactly see how he correlates their teachings with the 7 steps, though -- to me it's quite a stretch. Also, as per Quiet Your Mind (which I found less useful), he promises free audio help, which maybe was available when he published Seven Masters in 2003, but now you have to purchase it. I didn't so I can't speak for the purchased audio. I'd have to like his books a lot better before I purchased any of his audios.

but this book is the best way I have found to not only get started
I do Bikram yoga and they say it is a 90 minute moving meditation. They are very clear about the moving part, but I had to do some personal research on the "meditation" part. Obviously, there are many different ways of meditating, but this book is the best way I have found to not only get started, but also to take it to much deeper levels. It is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to put into practice. You do not have to be extremely spiritual to learn from this book, but if you are open to it, it will take your spirituality to higher levels.I have given away five copies of this book and plan on giving away more.

The right thing at the right time!
I just took my first step on the meditative path to spiritual awakening by purchasing and reading this wonderful book from John Selby. This piece makes available to the reader, the fundamental principle(s) behind each of the seven masters method of contemplation vis a vis elicitor phrases, that serve to point the mind in a specific direction.A synopsis of each master and their particular mode of inner travel is discussed; followed by a small meditative pause to allow the reader to hold in place and internalize the information presented. The book is well written, descriptive but not in any way abstruse, profound yes, but not abstruse. The most remarkable aspect of this book is the assistance it makes available through the 7masters website, which offers downloadable audio guidance - which I find absolutely invaluable. I think this is a fantastic way to begin a meditative regimen. 5 stars easily!!

This was a wonderful book explaining the different religious practices showing that we all believe in the one true God. The book explains the practice of meditations according to the different Masters and how we can blend them to gain insight and non-judgment of each through out the world religious beliefs.
