When You're Expecting: The Doctor Recommended Plan for Baby and You Review: The Most Useful Pregnancy Eating Information - Most of the pregnancy books I have read give you lots of information about what to do, but they aren't specific enough, like telling you to eat whole grains, but not which exact loaf of bread to buy or avoid fish that are high in mercury, but not telling you that there are fish you can eat. They also aren't always realistic, because I guess they think you can follow their advice perfectly since it's only for nine months. This book is different. Dr. Ashton tells you exactly what brands and products you should eat, aisle by aisle in the supermarket, as well as at restaurants like Chipotle, McDonald's and Chili's. Plus, it's got tons of easy healthy recipes. She also tells you which don't are really really bad, like smoking, and which, like caffeine, you just need to cut down on but not cut out entirely. Finally, like all of the Eat This Not That books I have read before, this book is easy to use and fun. There are lots of pictures that make it easier to remember what to buy and what to avoid. I don't really have to remember though, because I bought the ebook, so it's on my phone and I can use it to shop for groceries, order at a restaurant or make something quick at home. Review: Easy read! Fun facts! - Loved this book! I like how it doesn't just tell you to eat or not eat something, it explains why. This book is also not just for pregnant ladies. I have found some interesting facts that I was able to share with my husband who is trying to not gain too much "sympathy' weight ;) The only down side for me is they did not list the carbs for most items in this book, and as a pregnant woman, watching my daily carb servings is very important.

The Most Useful Pregnancy Eating Information
Most of the pregnancy books I have read give you lots of information about what to do, but they aren't specific enough, like telling you to eat whole grains, but not which exact loaf of bread to buy or avoid fish that are high in mercury, but not telling you that there are fish you can eat. Love this book!
I love this book! Every chapter has great advice on how to maintain a healthier diet when expecting. It's not about dieting (ice cream, bread, cookies, candy, etc. are all included!), but knowing which options are better for both you and baby. I especially love that recipes and tips are broken down by trimester. There are also a ton of useful Q&As that every pregnant woman has asked herself at one point during pregnancy (i.e, "What cheeses can I eat?"). It's nice to know that you have answers straight from one of the best OBGYNs!

Not worth the money
I have mixed feelings on this book. My main issues are that it is misleading on what is healthy and safe to eat. Deli meats are a big no no for pregnancy, yet this book lists it as a good option for eating many times over again. Also it states fried eggs are safe. Um no. You really need to do you own research and listen to your provider before you listen to the suggestions in the book. It’s not a food bible for pregnancy. However, I like the food swap suggestions for restaurants. It’s nice to be reminded of some healthier options we can make when craving some foods. I don’t think it’s worth the money and you really have to be careful what it tells you is safe to eat.

Great for first time pregnancies
I'm a huge fan of the "Eat This Not That" book series. So when I became pregnant, this book was first on my to-do list of what to read. It's very informative and helped me to figure out what to eat and what not to eat. Since this is my first pregnancy it was very helpful. Love this book!

Exactly what I wanted
Love love love this book, it's such a great tool for planning meals during my pregnancy, I am happy to say that I am almost halfway through and have not yet even gained 10 pounds. I actually feel better these days because I am eating so much better!

Mixed Messages
Two things that stood out to me that make me question the book. It said do not eat smoked meats, but then on a salad section, it said a topper option is smoked salmon (?!). Then, it is known that you should eat thouroughly cooked eggs. In one of the food pictures it features an egg cut open with the yolk running out (?!). It just sends mixed signals so I would rather use a different book as a reference on what to eat when you are pregnant.
