I did not have to prime this pump. I hooked it up as directed and used slow full strokes and up came the soap.

Q: What is the total height of plunger (not spigot) above mounting surface?

Guessing 1 1/2 inch 2 inches tops

Q: Can’t get it to draw soap

Definitely took a lot of pumps to get it primed and the soap up to the top. Let it fully return to top before pumping it again. Unless you have a lleak where the hose goes into the pump, or a bad pump, it should work. As you're pumping you should see the soap coming up the tube.

Q: How do you fit the tube to the pump???? Seems too small! And what is that plastic dongle connected to the cap? Instructions are DREADFUL!

There's 2 bottles adapters. One is for putting into the ant bottle which is why it has several staggered levels (3 I believe) and the other is a sleeve that goes the whole opening of your soap bottle after you remove the soap bottles original cap. If you're struggling to fit the tube through the adapters you can use some dish soap to lubricate the tube which will help it go thru the bottle soap adapters.
