Q: I have a large knife collection, i have many cold steel fixed blades some are 8 mm on spine, will it work okay on them? thanks

Although I have not measured the maximum extent, the jaws on the blade holder open very wide. You may want to contact KME to be sure.

Q: Will this sharpener work with 3/16th thick blades?

Thanks for checking in on that. Yes with no trouble, the clamp will open up very wide. I've never clamped anything over 1/4 inch thick but it would probably do it. Let me know if you have other questions, happy to help out

Q: Does the included case have enough room for the base if I buy it later?

I put the base between the inside plastic shell and foam of the top side. It fits but it is a tight fit. As I have added accessories, like the stone thickness compensator, extra stones, small blade blade jaws, glass plates .. etc. I have moved the contents to a new bigger box. The base is a very valuable accessory and it will initially fit the box.

Q: Can I sharpen a wood chisle with this

Thanks for checking in. This system is focused on sharpening knives and doesn't come with an adapter for sharpening chisels. Though it isn't impossible it wouldn't be very easy to accomplish without something to hold the chisel more easily and make the face angles ones that you could get reliably within the angle range available on the sharpener.
