Amazing!
This book is so incredibly helpful!! It has been my bible ever since I got it. It is written in a perfect way for someone who is beginning and wants the basics laid out for them step by step including images and examples. Things are also very well explained . The book both provided a wealth of knowledge and was not overwhelming. I really love it.

Practical, beautiful, and full of personality! Essential for any potter!
Clearly written, easy to follow, beautiful photographs, and lots of personality! This book has it all to get you started on your pottery journey, or even to spark inspiration to get back to your wheel after a creative dry spell. Julia breaks down every essential part of the pottery process- clay, tools, wedging, centering, trimming, and finishing! My favorite part is all of her helpful tips along the way in each section that clarify her instructions for different scenarios. This is a comprehensive book that is unpretentious, relatable, and practical. It will be my new “go to” book when I embark on my next pottery chapter.

I bought this as a gift for a daughter-in-law who'd just received a pottery wheel & she loved it.
I bought this as a gift for a daughter-in-law who'd just received a pottery wheel & and she loved it. She said it was super helpful explaining how to work with it since she'd been introduced to it in an art class she'd taken prior. Since she wasn't a complete beginner, she found the explanations to be beneficial and not too remedial.

Lots of good information
Admittedly, I did get help as I went through "The Beginner's Guide to Wheel Throwing: A Complete Course for the Potter's Wheel" by Julia Claire Webber. By "help", I mean access to a wheel and space so it took me awhile to find time to get through some of the projects. That said, I really enjoyed the process. The opening chapters on basics and tools was clear and concise. The projects were easy to understand in terms of planning and executing. Like anything, practice makes progress but I was pleased with my efforts. It is for beginner's and that fits for me. It does make space for inspiration to continue. It does take time, at least for me, but this guide is worth the time and the information provided does help a beginner like myself.

A comprehensive guide of the art form
Contains step by step guides with photos, covers different methods and even contains troubleshooting tips for when things go south. Author is clearly a pro but keeps the steps simple and makes it approachable. Inspiring photos of many works by a variety of artists. Excellent for beginners like me but I think it's comprehensive enough to benefit anyone already involved in the form. Presentation is excellent and would make a wonderful gift.

Don't hesitate, just buy it!
This book is amazing for anyone interested in clay. It is very informative and clearly explains processes, terms and techniques. The visuals in the pictures are also helpful. The author teaches how to make several different types of pieces walking you through each step, all the up through glazing. 10 out of 10, definitely recommend this book to others.

Very much a beginner's guide
A good book for what it is, which is a guide to throwing different basic shapes for the first time, for someone who has no prior knowledge of pottery.Very useful for just starting out.It has a tiny bit of information about clay, tools and decorating, but not much and nothing in depth.I guess I was hoping for a little more information overall on throwing, history, techniques etc. given the "complete course for the potter's wheel" sub-title.If you're looking for a step by step guide with photos of what to do with your hands to make specific forms, this is the book for you.If you're looking for information about anything else, you'll need to complete it with more books or videos.(Also I guess it's a pet peeve, but all temperatures are in fahrenheit only, it got a little irritating having to convert everything every time.)

Basic
I am a beginner and was hoping this book would uncover some secrets to improve my centering and wheel throwing but was disappointed. The instruction is sparce and sometimes difficult to follow. There are a lot of pages dedicated to other artists work - colourful but not what I was looking for.
