Really helps !
Helping my step son who has severe anger troubles and trouble calming down. Instead of resorting to violence he sometimes remembers to do the tap tap tap, or if we remind him he will. A great stepping stone and compliment to behavioural therapy for those who need it too.My four year old also does tap tap tap for any situation she wants to calm down in now.

Great for teaching children Self Regulation strategies
Great story (whole series is fantastic) with tools for children to self regulate their anger and frustration. Book provides real life examples for kids and the reference to one’s “spot” is very clever. The children in my Kindergarten class loved the breathing hand trick/poem!

Dealing with anger can be difficult for both you and your little one...
What I really like about Alder's simple but calming method is that it doesn't demonize anger as "bad", but focuses on making explosive emotions "smaller".Is your child going to magically not have tantrums after you introduce this concept to them? No, but this does offer a solid way for your child (and let's be honest: us, during those moments when we ourselves lose our cool at times) to TRY something to calm themselves with. It's a tool that requires patience to nurture, and I think it's worth a shot when you're sick of using timeouts for everything.

A must have for your book collection!
This book is a must have for you collection. Highly engaging and relatable for children learning to manage their big emotions. The calming strategy used in the book is practical for helping children to shrink their strong emotions to a size that is manageable. Strongly recommend this.
