Coway Airmega 300 Smart Air Purifier with 1,256 sq. ft. Coverage, White, Model:AP-1515H

We purchased this unit in June 2022, nearly 3.5 years ago. That said, this review is coming from a place of experience with this air purifier. We had just adopted two cats that were born in the bushes outside our home, and I don't particularly care for cats (or more specifically, the smell of cats)! I was concerned about the price of this machine, not because it was crazy expensive compared to other machines that claim to be able to do what this purifier does, but because I didn't want to spend even half of what this thing cost just to keep the house from smelling like cats. On top of that, I didn't want to have to keep buying filters for it. I chose to bite the bullet and purchase this because I figured that if this device could keep the cat smell to a minimum, it would be worth every penny. The recommendation is every year or two, but they are so easy to clean that we were able to extend the filter life quite a bit! The outermost screen filters are quick and easy to get the dust off. It takes about one minute per filter (one on each side) to vacuum off. We clean these filters every 45-60 days. The innermost filters - the big ones with the charcoal - we clean every 12 months. Those take a little longer to clean, but no more than 5 minutes with a vacuum attachment. Everything on this device is easy to remove and replace. Now for the important part... Until just this very week, I have never - and I do mean NEVER - noticed a cat smell in our home. My in-laws have a cat, and they have commented several times over the years how amazing it is that our home never smells like cats - or any odors for that matter! My sister-in-law is allergic to cats but doesn't have any issues at our house. Fast forward to today, I have grown a bit fonder of the cats but still don't like cat smells! I came to Amazon today to purchase my very first set of replacement filters, if that tells you anything about the longevity of these filters! I decided to leave this review just in case anyone else is on the fence about this air purifier. It works. Perfectly. All day. Every day. Additionally, I no longer use expensive HEPA filters in our HVAC system because this purifier takes nearly everything out of the air that those would catch anyway. For anyone who's curious: We have a 1900SF home. I was able to find a great location for this fairly close to the middle of our home so that it purifies the entire house. I go weeks at a time without even realizing this thing is in the room - it just blends in and disappears! If it detects odors, it will speed up for a brief period of time, but almost always runs at the lowest speed - nearly silent. I'm certain that this would even work in larger homes than ours, because in our home it typically only runs at 25%. There are a number of controls so you can adjust the speed, setting, schedule, etc., but we never use them. We just set it and forget it. The power this unit can produce (and the amount of air it can move) is incredible. This purifier brings air in from the sides of the unit and exhausts it out from the top, creating perfect circulation. As an added (undocumented, unsupported) function, anything you place near the top of this unit (potpourri, air diffusers, essential oils, etc.) is quickly dispersed throughout the home.

Yes its big, yes its expensive, but if works, and not just a little. We have an 65 year old house and two large dogs and 2 cats and 2 teenagers so... our house had an "odor" to say the least, also we have large open spaces. Our house is about 4,000 sqft with the great room/kitchen/livingroom being one large continuous space with very tall ceilings. Plus... did I mention our house is old, build in 1959 out of real wood, lathe and plaster, all the good stuff... but after almost 65 years... the good stuff smells... Ok to get to it... this giant air purifier works amazingly well, if you have the space, or you dont care about size, it works better than anything or any other unit we've tried. After 2 days our house has ZERO smell and the air is noticeably clean and dust free. When the dogs are playing rough, or our HVAC kicks on and puts particulate into the air, the display on the unit and indicator light changes if the air is dirty, on the first day, every time the HVAC came on I noticed it would go from 1 or 2 up to 20 or so... it automatically speeds up to clean the air, and now after several days, its only goes up to maybe 4 or 5, umits getting better and better. As mentioned all odor in our entire house (except the teenagers bedrooms, air nothing gonna fix that!) Is GONE. We had a friend who regularly is at our house over last night and she walked in and the first thing she said is "what did you do?, I've never been in your house and it not smell..." thus I decided this product was worthy of writing a review. I was skeptical to spend this much $ on a unit, though we've spent much more when you combine all the others we've tried. Sure they worked to a small degree, or if you were sitting close to them, but this is the first one that has delivered 100% whole-house odor free clean air. Its the sise of a water cooler without the water tank, so keep that in mide, but well worth it to have an odor-free house

I’m going on my 5th year using this device daily, it has rarely ever been turned off. I run it on the setting below the highest, always. I will say it isn’t quiet but it isn’t loud. It creates a nice white noise that is adaptable. I have replaced the filters in it every 9-12 months due to a dust issue living near a lot of farm land, plus I have all hardwood floors, no carpet. I have a small dog in the home who often has company and Im a smoker. Over all I feel like the air is fresh and it helps immensely with dust and dog hair! I never smell my dog or cigarettes in the home. When I come in after work and the house has been closed up all day, I can smell my plugins right outside the front door which is a great thing. I clean the pre-filters weekly and they normally have a good coating of dust and dander that I spray away down the sink. In the summer I sometimes find mosquitoes on the pre-filter! I hit the main filters with the Dyson about once a month as the fine dust does collect and prevent air flow. I have to admit that the original filters did a better job and lasted longer than the off-brand ones that I purchase for about $25 per set but the savings outweigh the loss of quality by far as they are quite comparable with fit and filtration. The sensor is very sensitive to the environmental changes and air flow will increase with change. I love that the front and back are also detachable by sliding upwards and can also be easily removed to be cleaned like the 2 magnetic sides that cover the filters. It has a night mode and a timer feature although I rarely use either. My home is a 1300 sq ft ranch style therefore the layout is somewhat boxy. The device is centrally placed however I believe the lay out of my home would be most benefited from an additional unit as the bedrooms still collect quite a bit of dust but are somewhat partitioned except the doorways. I will definitely purchase another Conway product when my budget allows as I’m very pleased with the reliability and ease of the airmega 400 however it was considered an investment at its price point.

We got 300S WHITE in April 2020. We were affected by the wildfires in the Bay Area and during the Covid pandemic, so we needed fresh air. Coverage. 300S / 300 model can fully change the air every 30 min in 1,256 sq. ft coverage and assuming the height of a ceiling to be 8ft. If the coverage is 628 sq. ft , the air will be changed every 15 min. 400S / 400 model can fully change the air every 30 min in 1,560 sq. ft coverage and assuming the height of a ceiling to be 8ft. If the coverage is 780 sq. ft , the air will be changed every 15 min. You can use this logic and calculate approximate numbers for your place. Noise level. The noise level, based on the attached Certificate of Performance, ranges from 22db - 52db subject to the mode of operation. We only find it slightly noisy when it runs an intensive cleaning, otherwise, it goes virtually unnoticed. No weird smell. It's noteworthy to mention that unlike another purifier we previously tried that had a strange filter smell, the 300S model runs odor-free. The air quality feedback. The interactive light feature on the model provides real-time air quality feedback. If left on, the light changes color according to the air quality as follows - — Blue and green for good air quality. — Green and yellow for moderate quality. — Yellow and pink for unhealthy air. — Pink and red for very unhealthy air conditions. Performance, maintenance, and management. - The model comes with five operational modes (Smart, night, level 1, level 2, and level 3). - It has an auto setting feature that turns on automatically when the air quality deteriorates, a common occurrence when we accidentally burn food while cooking. - It incorporates a two-filter system, offering convenient notifications reminding us when to clean the pre-filter (just a simple wash) or replace the inner filter (about $43 per filter). - The air cleaner can connect to Wi-Fi and comes with a mobile app, which pushes air quality notifications to your phone in real time. - The scheduling control feature allows us to set the operation based on our daily routine. Other: - It's light and portable, so moving it around the house is quite easy. - The design is aesthetically pleasing - the white variant looks trendy and minimalist, which adds to our interior decor. - The durability should be highlighted - it has been four years, and it’s still working flawlessly. Overall, we are thoroughly satisfied with the 300S WHITE air cleaner and highly recommend it if you are looking for cleaner indoor air.

We bought our Airmega 400 to handle some basic dust and allergy concerns in the house, as well as another layer of virus and bacteria infections protection. We are a family of 3 and no pets. We do have a central Honeywell F300 electrostatic system (rated at HEPA 13) (including UV light treatment), but we have found that it only works best when the central blower is running full blast (it is loud), so that is not working out for us. We bought one Airmega to try it out first, but I will probably add one more unit. We are in a newer 2100 SF ranch house with 100% hardwood floors and the Airmega is located in an open area (kitchen, dining, family room, sun room) that is 800 SF with high ceilings. This unit is just fabulous for that area! It has reduced dust by 90%. We vacuumed the pre-filter just once in two weeks and it definitely collected dust. When our fireplace is on, it actually distributes the heat throughout this area quite well, which is just incredible comfort. It has helped balance out the temperatures throughout the house. We move it at night to our bedroom suite (about 400 SF) and it has nearly eliminated dust under the bed. My sinus allergies are improved by 90% for sure - basically no congestion and I definitely sleep better due to no congestion at night. The machine, on low, is basically silent at night. I have an opinion that the “auto” mode feature is useless for air purification. Air needs to move to be filtered. The indicator is on blue 95% of the time (so I guess the air in our house is overall clean), which means that the unit would rarely run at all when on auto mode! What is the point of that? Why buy an air purifier only to have it on idle most of the time? It changes to purple when cooking or when the central heat kicks on (maybe some dust inducts). It also immediately detects when a candle is burning 10 feet away. It takes the Airmega about 5 minutes to go back to blue. When there is a lot of activity we sometimes get the yellow/red indicators going, and it clears things up very fast. We basically leave it on medium (which is quiet enough to allow normal conversation and watch TV). It has completely eliminated any visible dust particles in the air and almost all dust on surfaces like lamps and tables. Amazing, but you must have the machine running in order to accomplish that level of difference in visible air quality. Another side note: We have a commercial Santa-Fe Classic dehumidifier with a large 2” HEPA 13 filter in my fully finished 2100 SF basement . We run it year round on fan mode (it is 275 CFM) and the air in the basement is quite clear, especially in the humid months when the unit runs (I switch it to fan mode to get air flowing through it for purification). It was my experience with the Santa-Fe that compelled me to try the Airmega on the main level of the house. Air purifiers (and dehumidifiers) work, no doubt about it. You should know this: After just two weeks of ownership, the “medium” fan speed control stopped working! Amazon exchanged it for us no questions asked, but it sure does leave a very bad taste in my mouth considering the costs and simplicity of the machine. That said, the machine seems well made and appears to be high quality. At the end of the day, it is a plastic box with a fan and basic (thin) carbon and HEPA 13 filters. There is very little carbon in the filter, but we do notice it gets rid of cooking smells. It was packaged nicely (almost like Apple iPhone packaging), and it has a somewhat upscale and modern look. I may add one more dedicated Airmega unit to our bedroom on the other side of the house. Overall, very happy with the machine, but our initial experience is tainted due to the early failure of the speed control (the early failure is reason for 4-stars).

This unit seems very accurate. Every time my wife cooks, it kicks into high speed from the smoke. I'm not joking, it actually does. Even if it's just a strong smell from the cooking, it goes into high speed. I even heard it kick in one time after I sneezed. I've already cleaned the outer filter 3 times since purchasing it (about a month now), so it's collecting. And we no longer see the dust floating around when the sunlight shines through the windows in the morning. It's made a big difference. On the cons side, I see no reason for this thing to make a sound when it changes mode. When I configured the auto mode change at night and in the morning, it make a bing-bing sound 3 times in a row about 10 seconds between. It's in our living room, so no big deal, but if you plan to sleep nearby, it would be annoying. Another con, the app is not that great. I had to disable it sending alerts, because the only alert it sends is that your air quality is extremely bad. And it did it so often that I finally disabled it. But then when I opened the app, and viewed the air quality readings, it was never in the extremely bad range, or only hit it once or twice, much less than the numerous notifications. I would recommend going with the non-app version which is significantly cheaper. You won't use the app, unless you forgot to set the mode of the unit before leaving on vacation, but even then, what's the worst that will happen? If no one is in your home, it's unlikely there will be any dust being stirred up anyway, and it will just keep running in the previous mode. The app does show air quality in a graph form, but looking at that wore off after the first couple of days. The build quality is really nice. Heavy strong plastic sidewalls, easy and intuitive filter replacement, and it's very quiet for the amount of air it appears to be moving. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality!

I love a lot about this air filter. I really like the smart features. I originally thought they would be gimmicky, but after living with it for a few weeks I have experienced the value. I love that it detects the airborne contaminants, and increases air circulation to clean the air. I’ve noticed that it increases air flow during high traffic and vacuuming, among other things. I like that I can check the app for air quality, and I can see past air quality as well. I like that the filter knows when it’s bedtime and decreases airflow, in order to keep noise pollution down, for quiet tearfulness. Now on to effectiveness. We have a nearly 3000 square foot new construction home. It’s about three years old. Most of our air contaminants likely come from area construction, as well as a year round growing season, with year round pollen and similar contaminants. My oldest child has had a persistent hack for the last couple of years. I would not really call it a cough, so much as a hack. Every few minutes he would do a throat and lunch clearing cough. It never seemed short of breath, just seemed to be clearing an irritant. We took him to doctors, who suggested everything from allergies to asthma. We sort of ruled out asthma because he is athletic, and has no issues out working other children, and displays no unacceptable shortness of breath, other than what you expect, and recovery times are quicker than normal. As a previous asthma sufferers myself, that does not resemble asthma to me. We opted to try daily allergy medications, and they seemed to help some, but did not eliminate that dreaded hack. Now I said all of that to say this. Since we added this filter, we hardly ever hear him clear his lungs. I’m actually surprised, because I assumed it would take much longer. I figured he had been doing it long enough that it was a habit by now. But after a few days of filtering, his symptoms diminished, and after a week or so, he almost never does it. Now our home is nearly double the size of the the filters rated coverage area. But the design of our home, I think, allows one unit to work. Our central air unit has only one air return, and it is at the blower unit. This is located centrally, upstairs, in a closet with a vented door. The area around that closet is sort of an open landing area, that opens to a large family room. I think what is happening is that the filter can clean large volumes of air, that then get circulated through the house. The dirty air is then pushed back up to that open area, and filtered by the unit. The unit can tell when air is clean or dirty, and increases, or decreases circulation, accordingly. Anecdotally this seems to be a successful test, eliminating our primary concern. The side benefit is the remainder of our family is now breathing cleaner, healthier air. It just took one sensitive member to illustrate the need. I wish I had known this would solve the problem, and I wish I had done it sooner. I expected to need to units to have a successful result, and I’m so pleased that one unit does the job. Not every home may have the same results. Some may actually need two units to do the job. Also, I opted to shop the amazon warehouse deals and save a bunch of money. I bought a used acceptable condition unit. It arrived in a generic box, but everything was still protected by the factory foam, and cling wrap. Everything appeared new, and worked perfectly. If you want to save s big percentage, I highly suggest checking out the warehouse deals. If your displeased with the condition, Amazon has a very generous return exchange policy. My filters in my unit looked brand new and unused. But if I were concerned, new filters are about $100, so you could still have significant savings, even if you opted to put brand new filters in it right away. At first I was put off by what seemed like a high filter cost. Then I recognized what I was spending on allergy medication each month, for one child. The filters provide clean, allergy free air for the whole family, at a fraction of the cost of allergy medications for one child. By reducing our allergy medication costs, we can replace filters as needed, an no added cost. I would have thought building a new home would prevent these issues, but the other new construction in the area, seems to exacerbate the issue. I also weighed the option of an Aprilair, or air bear system on our central air unit, but I was concerned about the designed air flow for our system, and any disruption could shorten the central air life, increase energy needs, and decrease overall home comfort. Those air filters work great for a system designed and tuned for their use. But for a system designed for a more or less open fiber filter, it could cause problems. So I decided a stand alone filter would be the better option. Also those air handler systems that go on your ariconditioner unit, are not usually helps rated. The AIRMEGA 400s is. And it is constantly monitoring, and cleaning the air. It also uses no harmful ozone. I’m an ozone fan, and I own an ozone generator. But I like to use it in specific situations, under controlled conditions, when all occupants can be out of the house. I don’t want ozone to be a part of my primary home air filtration system. Others may have different priorities, and I encourage you to research the benifits and precautions, and choose according to your needs and priorities.

I really wanted to like this purifier. I bought this based on the good reviews, but now I wish I had paid attention to the bad reviews. I am no stranger to air purifiers, had many over the years, one lasted over 5 years but was very bulky. Air purifiers DO work, just not this one. Now they are all made more aesthetically attractive and more compact. Obviously looks can be deceiving. I received the Airmega 300 from Amazon 2 days ago and I will be forced to return it. Some ppl told me to give it a chance for a few weeks, but an air purifier should work from day one, not weeks or a month later. I have severe allergies to carpet fibers, dust mites, and also have 2 black labs that aggravate the problems due to shedding. I'm also a stage 4 breast cancer patient that needs a clean environment. I live in a rental home so removing the carpet in my bedroom is not an option. I have an IQ Air Health pro which is the grand daddy of purifiers with a $1000 price tag for a reason. I use it in the living room and the rest of the house but it is way too big to place in my small bedroom. It covers 2000 sq ft but I have to keep the door to my bedroom closed due to a wall ac unit. With my breathing issues I have to have it cold in my room. I had a Winix 950 in my bedroom that worked very good but stopped working after just 1 year. I never rebuy the same appliance if it only last a year, they lost a customer for life due to such poor quality. I had been suffering with my allergies since then, constant sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose and sore nose from having to blow it every 5 minutes. My poor dog suffers from allergies as well always sneezing and runny nose. So when I got my Airmega i was soo excited. I vacuumed and dusted before I used the purifier. I took the plastic off the filters and everything looked new. I wanted to make sure I didn't get someone's used reject. Turned it on and within one minute it turned from red to blue. I thought that was strange since I live in an old dusty house despite trying to keep it clean, but the Winix stopped the constant dust accumulation and definitely stopped all my allergy symptons. I thought I would give it some time. I was cooking and do not have an exhaust fan so it became smokey in my kitchen. When I walked in my bedroom the red light was displayed and turned to high fan speed. I was impressed it picked up the smoke in the kitchen with the door closed. Little did I know that was the only time it would sense anything. While it was on day one I still kept sneezing, watery eyes, running nose. My dog sneezing as well. The sensor always displayed as blue except for that one smoke incident. I even adjusted the sensor like recommended to sensitive. The next day first thing in the morning I shake off my blanket from the area my dog always sleeps on right in front of the Purifier. Never changed colors or changed the fan speed to high. I could see the floating particles from the sun shining through the windows which it should have been picked up by the machine. What good is this purifier anyways if it can't clear dust particles from the room? Or simple allergens that cause sneezing, runny eyes, itchy runny noses? Unfortunately this Purifier seems to be more for looks then what its actually supposed to do. I don't feel its motor is powerful enough. I even opened a bottle of nail polish remover which would set off my Winix in a second, but nothing changed with the Airmega. On day 3 dust bad on my dresser, and as I write this I have sneezed about 10 times with the purifier 5 ft from me set to medium fan speed. As a cancer patient I can't afford to waste money on a purifier that does nothing for me. Just sooo disappointed, So back it goes which will be hard for me to box up with severe arthritis in my right hand and angry they had wasted my time and money. Now till I can find another smaller type of system I'll have to move my IQ air in my bedroom so I can breathe again. I cannot believe someone on here actually compared the Airmega 300 to the IQ Air. The IQ air can remove volatile chemicals and odors, the Airmega cannot even remove simple allergens. And please brainwashed other users don't try to say the Airmega isn't built for odors. That is a blatant lie. It has a carbon filter for that reason. That is what their carbon filters are for, google it. Any strong chemicals I had I put directly in front of the sensor and it stayed blue. The other bad reviews speaks volumes.
