Excellent Product - Turning all of our vegetable and fruit waste into compost
I have now purchased 6 of these bins - as I have found them to be so useful. Producing lots of liquid fertiliser for our plants and shrubs. The bokashi bins are air tight and don't smell. They are stored in our garage, which helps maintain an even temperature throughout the year. I am then tipping the remaining solid residue into a rotating composter in our garden, which completes the final stage of producing rich compost for our planting. Highly recommend.

Works great if you're able to tend to them everyday
This is a fantastic solution for indoor composting if you are able to follow instructions and be there each day to drain it. We used them happily for a while and loved them. But you've got to be honest with yourself - if you're someone who often has to go away for work or doesn't have a stable weekly routine then these might not be for you. If you don't drain them daily or leave them for too long once they are full then the process will go from fermenting to rotting really quick and you'll have a failed batch. And trust me when I say you do not want to experience the sewage smell these things give off when you're burying a failed batch into the ground and having to clean out the bin. We have ended up returning to normal composting as bokashi just ended up being too high maintenance for us. That's not to say they wouldn't be great for someone else though - it really depends on what your lifestyle is like.

Bokashi
Having researched bokashi composting I decided to go for these bins as they come with 1kg of bran to start you off. They are sturdy and the lids are secure. The tap to release the liquid does not leak in either bin. Once the bin is full it takes at least 2 weeks to ferment before you can add it to a soil factory or compost bin. In this time the bacteria grows white mould and the finished product has a slightly pickled smell. There is no smell other than when you open the lid to add waste. I'm very happy with the bins, my household waste going to landfill has decreased significantly and I'm getting a nutrient rich compost in a short space of time. I would suggest researching bokashi before you purchase these but once you have they are excellent products.

Good value but has issues
The product in itself is very good for the price, but the tap leaks, so definitely requires the use of PTFE tape, which should come with it. I am also struggling to get it into the correct position as the last turn to align it seems to lose the thread and have to start again. I’m waiting for my son to come and see if he can get it into position, if he can then I would be very pleased with these.

This has leaked and stained (seemingly permanantly) my work top
I loved the idea and felt the quality of plastic was good considering the price. I found it extremely difficult to fix the tap to the unit as there is very little room for fingers. When draining after a few days I was pleased with the 30ml of fluid, but saw some fluid on the floor. It was outside at this juncture. I assumed the tap had been dripping so tightened it by turning the tap unit. I thought this would solve the problem. I brought it indoors and after a couple of days I wanted to drain it again and had to remove it from the worktop. To my horror all underneath the tub was thick brown gunge. The stuff that should been my lovely plant food! It had been seeping down and under the unit so slowly that there was not obvious drip as there had been before. I am going to continue with this batch otherwise all is wasted but I would like a refund please. Such a disappointment. Not to mention annoyance as the damanged work top.

Fine until one lid split
The bin was working fine until one of the lids split, which obviously allows air to enter the bin. As this was purchased about 4 months ago, I have not been able to find a way to contact the seller to enquire how to obtain a replacement.Update: After contacting the seller with a photo of the split lid, a new lid was promptly sent.

Bin lid DOES fit
The media could not be loaded. Lots of people saying the lid doesn’t fit the bin. It does fit if you run your fingers along the edges towards the corner as you’re putting it on. In order for the bin to work properly, it needs to be airtight, hence why some people may be having trouble getting them on.

Kitchen Composter
Good size, easy to use. I can't give 5 stars because one of the bin taps leaked. I used other plastic rings to fix the leaking.
