My wife and I love this bookcase, it looks so elegant and matches the old doors in our Victorian house, just perfect! However the self-assembly is not without some difficulties:The instructions don't mention this, but pilot holes need to be drilled for the various screws that hold it all together. Trying to drive them in without pilot holes will be very difficult for all but the very strong. But great care needs to be taken to make the pilot holes shallow, and not go through the full thickness of the panelsAlso the wooden dowels supplied are about 3mm too long, so the various components don't close up properly unless they're shortened. I cut 3 to 4mm off each one, then the result was perfect.The finished product is so good that I've awarded it 5 stars: the quality of the solid wooden construction with no chipboard or MDF, together the very reasonable price are sufficient to excuse the issues I've noted above, but it needs care to assemble, ideally by someone with much experience of self-assembly furniture, or perhaps a professional joiner, if you know one!Thank you!Geoff Douglas

I was worried that at such a bargain price this might not be a great item, but it was. Made from good solid wood and, whilst took a bit of time, not difficult to assemble to create a a very stable item.

This bookcase looks a lot pricier once made up for the money. The instructions are dreadful. I'm just glad my daughter volunteered to build this. It took her a while and normally she's very good at this sort of thing. She said there was no labelling of part a or screw x etc. good looking but a fracas.

This bookcase was better than expected. I found the instructions easy to follow and was very impressed with the quality of the materials and how expensive it looks. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a solid pine excellent quality item.

I am really pleased with the final result but I found the instructions unhelpful. That being said I am a retired age woman and I constructed it on my own.

Such a well made bookcase.Looks great.
