This dye does smell of ammonia! Be ready for that, make sure you have some air circulation for the sake of your eyes. I have let my feelings settle about this so I can be more balanced (you know how it is with hair...) and I like this dye! It's very straightforward and easy to use. I had dirty, post-workout hair and it was still effective. If you have hair that is very resistant to lifting, the change will be subtle. I wanted something not too loud anyway, so it's perfect. - get something like a super thick skin cream to cover your skin around your hairline, and your ears - have wet wipes handy to save your skin and counters/sink from accidental splotches of color - set up a space where it is safe to set down any item that might have dye on it (I put down a dark bathmat where I stand in front of my mirror and set my dye bottle etc there) - have a trash bag open and ready for any used wipes etc Those big haircut clips are very handy for sectioning your hair and securing the plastic processing cap. My hair needed some protein, so the conditioning treatment in the kit was very helpful. I had minimal scalp irritation, and I appreciate that it doesn't have overpowering lasting scent to fight my perfume later. I will use this dye again, it's very good for subtle color! Just have realistic expectations if your hair is naturally super dark.

This hair dye has been my favorite ever since I found it. My hair is pretty dark, so I need to look for hair dyes that will work on my hair. This one has been the best. I didn't need to bleach my hair and the color is pretty. The only downside is how harsh the chemicals are when you start using it. Your eyes will water if the dye is too close to them, so be careful with that and do not use it in a small room without ventilation. Other than that, the hair dye is great, and it lasts for quite some time. I've had it for two months now and the color is still there just not as bright.

This was the perfect purple for over brown hair that I've found, however, it destroyed my hair. My hair now stretches and breaks off every time I comb it. It's worse than if I'd actually bleached it over and over again. It makes me so sad because the pigment is perfect

My daughter wanted to go really red and picked this out. I was afraid it would have more of an orangey tinge but it doesn't. It's a very deep, true red. It really lifts, too. Her hair is brown and I didn't want to bleach first, but you don't have to with this. It definitely comes out nice and red. After 3 weeks, it's still just as saturated. We will need to hit the roots again soon, but the color hasn't faded at all. Highly recommend this!

There are some positives and negatives. The negatives are the packaging. Having the pouches instead of screw top bottles, like most box dyes have, was a pain. It was a tedious process to try and be super careful and slow adding the contents of the pouches to application bottle. The gloves were a bit of a pain to open as well. The opening for my hands to go in was very difficult to get open, I had to sit and pull at them and scrape the edges with my nails to finally get the gloves open. The smell was another negative for me. I'm very familiar with hair dyes and while this did have a strong smell when you mixed the product i got used to it pretty quickly and that was no problem. I'm complaining more about the weird smell it left in my bathroom and in my hair afterwards. After showering my hair (and bathroom) was left with this odd smell that I can only think to describe as how a public swimming pool smells. After using my leave in hair products and applying some hair perfume I don't notice the smell as much. But my hair definitely smelled weird before the products. My last negative is that it was kind of difficult to work in the hair. My mids and ends in particular felt tangled almost and it wasn't an easy process to work it all over my hair for that reason. The positives are that it seemed to work fine. I didn't leave it in my hair for the full 45 minute processing time. I chose to only leave it for 25 minutes. So it may have gone brighter if I had left it longer. But i'm fine with how it turned out as I wasn't looking for a super vibrant bright color anyway. The conditioner they provide smelled like watermelon candy as was really nice. Lastly I was impressed this didn't stain my skin or bathtub. I've used red dyes before and was expecting it to be a pain to clean up based on previous experiences, but there was really no clean up needed. I was very happy it washed off my arms and neck cleanly and easily in the shower and there was no scrubbing or extra steps needed to get the dye off me. Overall, especially for the reasonable price, I'd say this is a pretty good at home dye kit.

This product is a great value for the money, made of great quality, easy to use, clear instructions, is a beautiful color: & a favorite hair color in permanent now! I highly recommend this product AND this brand!!

I put this dye on as per directions and instead of green i was met with a nice cobalt blue. Wasn't the color I was going for but it was nice

definitely not the color that’s advertised on the box. i followed the directions and left it on for 45 minutes, but it came out SO. BRIGHT. (pictures don’t accurately capture it lol.) i thought it would be a deep burgundy color based on the reviews, but i guess my hair just lightened a lot more than i thought it would even though i started at a virgin level 2/dark brown color. if you’re looking for a BIG change, definitely get this, but avoid if you’re looking for something more subtle. very easy to apply and use though!
