Terrasoul Superfoods Organic Mesquite Powder, 16 Oz, Baking Ingredient, Nutrient-Packed Smoothie Booster, BBQ Marinade Enhancer, Coffee Flavor Enhancer

I just received this and am enjoying making hot drinks out of it. Looking forward to trying it in recipes too.

Caution - this isn't a strong BBQ sauce enhancer. It's a sweetener with virtually no "classic" mesquite flavor. I'm sure it's fine for its intended use, but it isn't for BBQ. Part 2 - after this review, Terrasoul contacted me and offered to refund the purchase price. I told them no because it was my fault I ordered it without really understanding what the product was. However, they refunded me anyway. Obviously, a classy company who really cares about their reputation!

It has an earthy/nutty flavor.

This is the first time that I have tried Mesquite powder. It is used in a cookbook (Alternative Baker) that I recently purchased..so I thought I would order some and give it a try. I looked at the different brands of Mesquite Powder/flour and the one recommended in the cookbook - but I chose Terrasoul Superfoods brand mainly based upon the extra level of care, quality and endorsements - but especially for the testing that they do. They test for yeast, molds, E. coli, salmonella and bacteria...and provided the test results of my lot # when I requested. So a great choice I feel! As for the flavor...I love it. I used it as a flavor enhancement to my regular gf flours - substituting 2 heaping tablespoons per cup of gf flour - rather than a full on replacement, which would be to strong. I made a gf oat flour and mesquite biscotti with hazelnuts, orange zest and dark cherries... AND a choc chip cookie with a gf flour blend and the mesquite powder with choc chips, and pistachios. BOTH test bakes turned out GREAT. The flavor is reminiscent of gingerbread in a way...a warm spice kind of flavor. So all in all I will continue to experiment with this powder and enjoy the results.

Having tried 5 different types of mesquite in the last few years, I think this mesquite has a mild, soft flavor while still tasting like mesquite. The powder is mostly fine-grain, though there were some clumps in my bag. I could easily smash them with a fork and never noticed any lumps after mixing all my other ingredients and liquids together. The only reason I didn't give this mesquite 5 stars in flavor is that I personally prefer mesquite that has a darker, deeper flavor, more toward the caramel-like end of the spectrum. If you want a basic, creamy, not-too-sweet, good tasting mesquite for not much money (comparatively to other organic mesquites), I say give this one a try!

It wasn't what I expected. I thought that the mesquite flavor would be stronger. Turns out to be a sweetener with little flavor. I gave it to someone from Texas. He might like it.

I love the taste and am a big fan of the nutrition. But the flour is not sufficiently sifted and has hard chunks in it. The first spoonful from the top of the bag left unchewable chunks in my coffee. If that issue is corrected, this would be 5 stars.

This was an adventurous purchase for me. Glad I tried it. Love the sweet flavor. Now I've got to find ways to use this up.
