This Super duty fireback is made from 1" thick structural grade A-36 shatterproof steel plate. Why so heavy? Simple; the heavier the fireback, the more heat it will reflect back into your home. Simply place the unit vertically against the rear wall of the fireplace, no fastening or special tools are required. SDHM-4 reflective fireback dimensions: 16" wide, 15 1/2" tall, 1" thick steel construction. Integrated feet extend forward 1 3/4" from the base of the fireback for positive stability. Fireplace size requirements for the SDHM-4 reflective fireback: The rear wall of the fireplace must be a minimum of 16" wide and at least 16" high to accommodate the fireback. The fireback you receive may either be black (painted) or bare steel. This will be the case until we exhaust our stock of painted firebacks. Afterwards, all firebacks will be bare steel and have a metallic finish. We are doing this because the paint burns off during the first fire and has proven itself to be completely unnecessary. Note: This fireback may be too heavy for a pre-fab fireplace to safely support, it is intended for use in a full masonry fireplace only. This product is very heavy. You will need the assistance of a helper to place this fireback in your fireplace to avoid back strain. Weighs about 75 pounds in the box.
