This book will help you learn to be kind to yourself and others no matter what
This book is about being kind to yourself and others regardless of whether you or they possess high status resources. It says someone who has no teeth, smells and is living on the street is not intrinsically inferior to someone who has an incredibly healthy body who lives in a mansion. It says the person who spends day and night looking after the well being of others is not intrinsically superior to the serial killer stalking her next victim. It doesn't say that murdering people or living on the street are healthy activities. It just says that assigning a value to yourself or others based on what people think, feel, do, want or have is not as healthy as refusing to assign a value to yourself or others and choosing to accept (e.g. be kind to) yourself and others unconditionally.

Self Esteem - good book if issues abound. . .
Good help book if you need to explore issues regarding self esteem. It was recommended to be read and I think the recommendation was right on. I'm not sure it is for everyone but I think Ellis explains things in a good way and that is easy to understand.

Easy to understand
It has a simple language to understand. I have not finished the book, but I have learned a lot from it so far!

Great advice, great read
Albert Ellis was a pioneer in the psychoogy field. Nothing seems to be more basic than how we develop our beliefs in how we think the world should be for us and our view of ourselves. He really takes us through one of the processes of how we wind up with a negative view of ourselves and destructive ways of thinking that stay with us util we can learn to take another path to universal self-acceptance. Great advice, great read!

Great resource for all
This book is a great resource for the seasoned clinician, "newbie", self-help seeking individuals, etc. This book helped guide my individual sessions with an adolescent client and helped refresh my memory WHILE learning new things! I also used it to guide myself and practice REBT on myself before using techniques on client. It made me fall in love with Ellis and his no-nonsense attitude. While, I tailored the techniques/information to client/environment, it was an amazing guide!

Three Stars
Ellis' self-esteem isn't lacking. But I guess he's earned it. This book confirms that he does.

Albert in style
This is an excellent book. Someone commented that it seems like two books in one. I think that is true as not only are issues of self esteem addressed, but also a great deal of comparison of RET philosophy and strategy with various views of other philosophies and therapies makes for interesting larger picture ideas.
