Excellent Standalone
Frankie Elkin is a woman who travels light at least as far as possessions are concerned. The mental scars she carries guide her every waking moment, haunt her dreams each night and can only be temporarily warded off by her life's goal to find those the police have stopped searching for.Angelique Badeau was 15 when she disappeared without trace leaving only her backpack and bewildered family behind. Eleven months later the leads have dried up, time has moved on, and Frankie, arriving in the Boston neighbourhood of Mattapan, knows she is the Haitian teenager’s last hope. It's fair to say female, white, middle-aged, recovering alcoholics are not spotted that often in Mattapan but Frankie's used to being in the minority. Having found herself a job and somewhere to sleep she begins her task, but there are things happening which put all those involved in far greater danger than they can imagine and finding Angelique could be the least of their problems.Lisa Gardner is a first class thriller writer and this very good standalone novel is an excellent example of her craft. Frankie is likeable, believable and motivated. Gradually her back story is revealed and adds so much to her character. This isn't a fast moving story, it doesn't hurtle rather it evolves slowly until everything is satisfactorily dealt with. Both Frankie and the reluctantly helpful police detective Dan Lotham would definitely warrant another outing sometime in the future.I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed this very much, it is a good read.

Good story but random capitalisation!
I enjoy this author's books and maybe she always does this and I haven't noticed before but given that our heroine is white, in a Haitian neighbourhood, the word "black" describing the majority of the residents appears a lot and for some reason always with a capital "B" whereas white never has a capital, I just found it a bit distracting!

First but not last
After speaking to Lisa during a podcast interview I wanted to read this book. It has taken me this long to get to it.I am no kicking myself for waiting so long!Francie hunts for missing people. The ones that have been missing so long others have forgotten. Looking for Angelique was a much bugger and more dangerous case than she had anticipated.I lived the writing style. It was well paced and gave you all the information you needed.I really enjoyed the budding relationships between the characters and found myself sad when they were over. This is my first book by Lisa Gardner, but o found myself putting off finishing it because I enjoyed it so much. I'm really sad that thus isn't a series. I will be looking out and reading more from Lisa that's for sure.

At last. Something different.
I really enjoyed reading this novel. The plot was different from most fiction storylines and I truly thank Lisa and the publisher for taking a chance. Just brilliant.

A great intro to Frankie Elkin
The first in the Frankie Elkin series, and a great introduction to her.Frankie Elkin is a recovering alcoholic, with a past, that now travels round helping to find missing people that everyone else has given up hope of finding. She travels to Mattapan, in Boston, where a Haitian teenager has gone missing. Frankie faces resistance from the police as well as the teens family but she must talk them round in order to help them. Can Frankie find the missing teen ?A great mystery thriller and looking forward to reading more in the Frankie Elkin series.
