This mug is a perfect gift for your true Harry Potter fans. It is exactly as described, changes from plain black to sorting hat choice with name as you chose it when you add hot liquid like coffee or tea. My only wish is that the name font was different. It works, there are just nicer fonts. I think it is franklin goth in an effort to allow for more letters? But there is plenty of space. I do think it is important to be clear that this mug cannot go in the dishwasher! It is noted on the bottom of the cup, and I was aware of that when I purchased it, but since so many people use dishwashers almost exclusively, it should be declared in the description, along with an explanation (the magic will be unevenly destroyed if you put this awesome cup in the dishwasher)

Ordered this for my daughter custom knowing how much she loves Harry potters hufflepuff and as soon as it arrived I gave her the box to open and when she opened it the handle was completely broken in several pieces. Needless to say a happy birthday surprise turned into tears and a not too happy parent. I reached out to contact the seller and hopefully I will hear back and get this matter fixed. If it was not broken it would have been an awesome gift. That is why I gave the rating I did especially waiting for a while for it to come.

The mug is black until you but hot liquid in it then the Sorting Hat appears. It knows my name and puts me in my house with it's attributes. I like it a lot, however they have instructions that advices against microwaving which is how a lot of people use for heating up a cup of tea or hot chocolate. I am lucky because our coffeepot maker has a separate side for heating up water. I just put my cup under it and press the button and hot water comes out. Otherwise you can put the teapot on.

Good quality cup. At first, the cup needs boiling water in order to get it to morph, which takes a couple of steps. The more you use it, the faster it morphs and and the longer it stays that way. I would not put it in a dishwasher or microwave. I think the extended heat would definitely compromise the morphing qualities. I probably used this cup for a visitor. I don't think it's intended for everyday use.

Loved that you can customize the mugs with your name. I have a common name, but I don't spell it how most people assumed it's spelled, so it's refreshing to have something within my possession with my name spelled how I spell it.

The image doesn’t totally disappear when empty.

It is a bit small, I do wish it were a larger oz size, I use it regularly though. I did expect it to go whiter than it actually does. It only goes a dark grey which makes the yellow print hard to read. But I still like it.

I got my 3 boys these Harry Potter mugs for Christmas with their names on them for hot chocolate. They were amazed by how quickly the black disappeared to reveal the Harry Potter theme underneath, and were equally fascinated with how you can run cold water over them and they go back to black.
