It’s good salt, purchased to sprinkle on top of Carmel mocha fraps, we just crush it in our fingers first.

Much more subtle than you'd think. Useful in some dishes, not so much elsewhere.
Maldon's regular sea salt is so uniquely good, I bought the 3 pound, restaurant kitchen bucket. As with the regular sea salt, the smoked salt has those lovely characteristic pyramid-shaped crystals. It is light, flaky, and works to great effect, either full-texture or crumbled between your fingertips. I have used smoked salts before, but usually it's hickory or mesquite or something else very distinct and bold tasting. That's not what you're going to get here. I've done tastings of the salt raw, as a seasoning, and as a finishing salt; and it is a *very subtle* smoke flavor. It's oakwood smoked, and you can definitely tell the difference between the regular sea salt and the smoked in both the raw and finishing usage. However, as a seasoning, there's no appreciable difference between them. Bottom line: it's a great finishing salt for delicate nuances, but if you're expecting powerhouse smoke flavor, keep searching.

Doesn't take much!
I learned about this awesome salt from Chef Gordan Ramsey. It does NOT disappoint!!!! It will naturally enhance the flavors in your food. The texture just melts into your food. You do not need a lot at all. It also is not smoky I can not stand fake smoky flavors. This is a natural enhancement. The plain is great too but, I could do the smoked anything now!!!!
