Simple Yet Elegant
I'd seen various copies of these pictures around the web for a few years. I'm glad that Yang Liu finally released a book, and a way to support her work. The images are striking in their simplicity while still capturing distinct and easily accessible differences between cultures. It's also fun to note slight changes that have been made between the some of the original art exhibitions and the versions that appeared in the book; only a handful were changed, and the changes were slight, but it is still interesting. The only thing that I wish was more explicit is that the original concept was to compare German culture against Chinese culture. Not all of the "Western" pictures can describe all of the West, just as not all of the "Eastern" pictures can describe all of the East. For example, some of the Western pictures will seem strange to an American, because American culture doesn't exactly match German culture either.

Highly valuable resource.
While the book is written from an Chinese POV, there is enough truth here for how different many of the Asian cultures are to be a worthwhile investment if you are seeking to understand those cultures better. I gave to a friend who is Vietnamese. She turned throgh the pages, eyes wide, saying, "yes, yes, yes!" She is sharing with her children so they can better understand the differences in their culture at home and at school. Highly valuable resource.

great for high schoool students!
I bought these for my eastern world class to discuss cultural identity in a fun and informative way. There were a couple that we really did not understand that is why I gave it a four

Definitely recommend
I use this book with my students preparing to study abroad. I love how simple and illustrative the other was with this book. I specifically work with students studying abroad in China, and I think they really appreciate the simplicity of this book. It's a great way to introduce Eastern culture to Westerners

A gem that quickly communicates important inter-cultural differences!
Having lived in North America, Africa and Latin America and worked with friends from quite a few countries and cultures; this book is fantastic. It's true, a picture paints a thousand words and some of the insights are terrific (while certainly they are just patterns, not rigid boxes). For anyone interested in inter-cultural communication, this book is a great and fun resource!

Very Very Clever
I have lived in Asia since 2005 - this book is incredibly useful to explain to people who have moved from the West the cultural differences and how people in the East see things. It has been also incredibly useful tool to help my colleagues from the East understand how people in the West think.

Love
As an American who lived in China for three years, I find so much accuracy in this book. Very true and very amusing. Great coffee table book!

Tolles Gastgeschenk
