Priming is when you fill the filter's tank with water to get it going. With s9me filters, you don't have to prime. With others, if you don't, you can burn up the motor as it tries to pump dry.

Q: Can I adjust the flow on this filter?

No adjustment control, but you could add extra pads inside, I’ll definitely slow the flow

Q: Im new to this and the only thing i dont know is the specialty filter below the regular filter. Is thete a specific one i should replace it with?

Do you mean the coarse "sponge" right at the exit? The last thing water flows through or over? If that's the one you mean, you never replace it. If it looks really dirty, you can swish it in some tank water but never use tap water or try to "clean" it. It is a home for the bacteria which break down the ammonia is your fishes waste. "Clean" it and you'll lose those bacteria and your fish will get sick. If you do need to replace it (badly damaged for example), contact Aqueon.

Q: does the LED light kill off algae?

That has not been my experience. The LED light is supposed to tell you when to change the filter.
