I keep buying copies of this for friends
Although I love all of Tamora Pierce's books, this is my all time favorite and as a veterinarian I completely identify with the character and feel the need to share this book with every animal loving young woman and fellow crone alike. It speaks to your spirit as well as provides an escape into a world where we have insight into the nature and feelings of animals and can communicate with them. There is an Inuit poem called "Magic Words" that describes the feeling I had when I read this book. Please keep writing Tamora!

Perfect for middle grade!
I really wanted to love this book and I really didn’t.Idk why but this writing felt super super choppy and rushed and just... I literally felt like I had skipped pages almost 20 times only to realize I didn’t the paragraphs just changed so randomly.I liked the character, I mean they didn’t feel too deep and I wanted more of the Queen and the baron. I didn’t really understand how Daine would lose herself or go mad? It wasn’t really explained and so I didn’t really care.I LOVED the banter from Cloud and how sassy she was. Literally favorite pony ever.

Wild Magic
I absolutely love this series by Tamora Pierce. I have always loved her books, I would read all of them growing up every time a new book came out. This series has four stories to it, and this is the first in the series. This story centers around a girl named Daine, who obviously by the indication of the title, has magic. However she is not like most people, because she has something called wild magic. I am not going to say anymore because I don't want to spoil to much. However, if you have read Tamora Pierce before and love fantasy and romance this is a wonderful series. This series spins a tale of love, friendship, and a girl who becomes a beautiful woman, learning along the way who she is, and becoming the person she desires to be.

Fantastic Book but BEWARE - Faulty Scanning into an E-Book
I love Tamora Pierce's works, and this book is no exception. It's an absolutely fantastic story about the coming of age of a young mage. The world is detailed, fabulous and vibrant. The characters are loveable and complex. The story leaves you wanting more. Now, the unfortunate part - the scanning that turned this product into an e-book did an absolutely horrible job. Quotation marks, periods, apostrophes, capitalizations - are missing entirely or misplaced. It turns a fabulous book into a headache. I don't want to hurt the author or discourage people from reading this wonderful book, hence the 5 stars. But this level of quality is unacceptable and needs to be fixed.

Wonderful opening to Dainne and her Wild Magic
This is another quartet set in Tortall, this time focusing on a young girl, orphaned by a bandit attack and seeking to find her place in the world as she departs the destroyed village that had been her universe. She arrives in the next town as a horse fair is finishing and finds a job helping Onua, a woman whose job is finding horses for the King's Own. On their journey to the capital, Dainne has opportunities to demonstrate her archery skills, as well as her ability to communicate with animals. When she and Onua rescue a hawk being hunted by Stormwings, half human, half-metal creatures who follow wars so they can feed on the fallen, she begins an adventure which leads to the castle, and the royalty that lives there. As she begins to study so that she can use her magic to heal injured animals, she also learns that she cannot hide her secret any longer. If you love fantasy with strong female (and male) characters, you should read this book. If you love animals and adventure, you must read this book. I can't wait to download and begin the next novel in this series.

a nice bit of backstory on an interesting character
Okay, so I'm 47 and not the age group the books are written for. I still love this world, and the people in it. In particular, I like the kind of character studies that Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey write--interesting kids who get found by the right people and are helped to fulfill their potential. There are lots of stories about people who can talk with animals--but I particularly liked the twist in which the basic nature of the character is not what you'd expect.Having read this book makes it fun to see Daine in other books, like running into a friend when you're out doing errands. I do wish there had been more development of her relationship with her mentor, although maybe it's in one of the other books. The fact that the age difference is inappropriate at best warrants some explanation, although I think it's a lovely relationship.

Sweet magic tale
Diane is a girl from a small town village who had a wild magic that allows her to talk to and heal animals. She joins the Queen's Riders (with the characters from her previous Alanna novels). An enemy nation has somehow released many magic creatures that have been trapped in the "Divine Realm" for centuries and Daine's magic holds the key to survival. It's a sweet story, with fleshed out characters. But the story is dominated by her internal conflict, ashamed of her mistakes and wanting to fit in. The battles and magic only play a side role, giving her a chance to feel like she matters. As a result, the intensity of the book remains low and it was too easy to take a break--I didn't care that much what would happen next.

I read it every year
I love this series so much and it brings me back to when I was younger when I first read it. I love the book and read it once a year. It even was my first book on my kindle.I would highly recommend it.Weirdly though when you buy the bundle with kindle the fourth book is not in it.

If you love fantasy, you'll love this series
I've been reading fantasy for the last sixty-five years, if I can count Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree. That was the first time I experienced a book with true magic woven into the fabric of every page. During revision for 'A' levels it happened again with 'Lord of the Rings'; revision stopped and exam results were perhaps less than they might otherwise have been. 'The Earthsea Trilogy' is another one that hit the spot. Much more recently Katherine Kerr's Deverry stories had the same 'magical carpet ride' impact on my imagination. Not at the time they were published but afterwards when I read them as a single whole. And now, with the Immortals Quartet, it's happened again. These four books, apart from being very well-written, truly transcend the genre persuading me once again that magic is real and waiting to take me by the hand once again. Heartfelt thanks to Tamora Pierce for the joy she brings with her work.

The start of a magical fantasy series
Wild Magic is the first book in The Immortals series and I highly recommend all four titles. I'm a big fan of Tamora Pierce's work and this is my favourite series by far.The opening instalment introduces us to Veralidaine Sarrasri, a young human who can speak with animals. Pierce introduces a host of characters, some familiar from Pierce's Song of the Lioness series, who follow Daine as she embarks on her new life. Magic, battles, and friendship form the core of the story and it is one I'm happy to re-read again and again. I was excited when the ebooks were finally released so I had a backup for my paper copies - now for the Daughter of the Lioness series please?

immortals
Still reading this book and it is a little confusing but getting there. Lots of funny/weird names but am starting to grasp who is who and what animals are what. Will read to the end, not sure if I would read any follow ups if there is any. Likeable but not great.

Brilliant!!
I really enjoyed this book, it's been a while since I read it and it's just as brilliant as the first time I read it! I love Daine and the rest of her friends, I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the quartet next!
