Good quality, simple LED light.
Ill try to be objective here, I have owned/own way better quality aquarium lights than this, but boy is this light a great value! It is cheap, and lacks the features of more expensive lights, but it is really well built and thought out for the price point and I am very impressed. The only downside is that they dont give you much margin for error when attaching this to a tank, you better have thin tank walls or you will be out of luck.Pros:-Good light output for a medium-low application on a smaller tank, or as a supplementary light-Nice size, small enough to fit perfectly front to back on my 12" deep tank, but long enough to actually provide full light output across the length.-Great quality little goose neck that stays where you put it-Lights appear to be heat-sinked to the metal backing and sealed in place. This is nice...no moisture buildup.Cons: (Not really cons, just things that it doesn't have at this price point)-Its either on or off, and it wont work with a dimmer. There is no night mode, or anything of that sort. Since the transformer is wired into the light base, it plugs in with a regular 120v AC plug, so you cant use this on a dimmer. (Never plug solid state electronics into an old school rheostat dimmer, it will ruin them).-The method by which it clips to a tank seems a bit poorly engineered. Its a small plastic screw and a plastic u-channel that is neither wide or deep enough to fit over much of anything.

Excellent for Fluval 2.6 Gallon
I use this on my Fluval Spec III 2.6 Gallon tank. It houses one Betta and one pond snail that arrived on one of the plants (too small for me to see at the time; now he's huge). For such a small tank, it obviously low-tech. I don't mess around with CO2. Also, I'm a total newbie. I bought this light because my duckweed died within two weeks of getting it and my Betta was upset with the lack of floaters. The Finnex light clips nicely to the back of the Spec III with a little fiddling and it is BRIGHT. The Betta didn't like it at first and hid under the big Anubias leaves, but now it doesn't bother him and he's always cruising around in the open. As for my plants, they responded visibly within 2 days of having the light. They looked sad and droopy before, now all of them are perky and are finally starting to throw off nice roots. Additionally, my new little crop of duckweed is doing just fine.I like that the light has a flexible neck because I can tilt the light in different directions to offer my Betta some shade occasionally, though he does have a lot of plants to hide in. My only quibble is that the light switch is on the BACK of the power box which is what clips to the tank rim. For me, I don't have enough clearance with my current set up between the wall and the switch for it to be operable. The only thing I can do is plug it into a timer or just rest it loosely on the tank so I can lift the light up and away to turn on and off. An inline switch would be much better for me. I am moving soon and will change my set up so that the aquarium is more than two inches away from the wall and I have more clearance behind the tank. Not enough of an issue to remove a star, because for the price this is just fabulous and would be sufficient for a range of tanks up to 10 gallon, I would think. Also, the LED's don't throw off as much heat as I expected and the entire unit, while warm, stays comfortable to the touch when adjusting the angle or when turning on and off.Highly recommend.
