Understand soil life and how to support it
This book is all about things living in the soil, what they do and how they do it. It's a book to really concentrate on, just about every page so far has something which has made me think "ah, so that's why..."The science is there and explained in a way to make it accessible: I'm a gardener with a technical background but no no biology at school. It's helping me to understand soil life, and how I can be helping and supporting it.

A bit technical but fascinating
Do you know the difference between a nematode and a protozoa? Are you aware that earthworms are an indicator of soil life? Do you know that plant roots naturally team up with fungi, supplying them with carbon in exchange for essential nutrients? Read this book and you will know the answers to these questions and many, many more. It's absolutely amazing to learn how much variety of life exists in soil and, in fact, makes soil what it is - not at all an inert resource but rather a complex system of networks and connections where millions of organisms play a part. Mind-boggling! This book should be mandatory reading for all farmers and gardeners - we would solve many of the planet's current (human-created) problems... The style is entertaining and clear, if sometimes a bit technical (but in my opinion no more than is necessary).
