Quality matters
If you ever had the experience of buying "off brand ink" what I am about to say will not surprise you, quality matters. I have had cheaper inks dry up and clog my printers. When comparing the color intensity of cheap inks to the intensity of color from Canon ink the difference was obvious, Canon wins. Further with the "Eco Tanks" you get a significant saving over the cost of the smaller and much more expensive ink cartridges. My photographs are important for my work and for my personal use. Saving a few dollars on the ink is not a win since I know I will be left with an inferior final product.
