Would it be better to buy the Osmo genius kit and just purchase a normal dry erase board/markers? Or does this set include something I would need?

Just get the genius kit and a dry erase board. I use the dry erase in my classroom for the monster game and the students love it. The genius kit comes with a lot of other great stuff. Also the coding awbie is a lot of fun if you are looking to get something else and it prepares kids for future coding of computers which is useful.

Why is the Kindle version eligible for returns but the iPad version cannot be returned?

Probably because Amazon owns the Kindle brand and patterned with Osmo to release the "for Kindle" versions only from Amazon while the iPad version is also sold elsewhere.

Will the physical items purchased previously with ipad (e.g. tangrams, pizza co.) work on our fire?

Hello, All the the games associated with the Genius Kit, Creative Kit and Super Studio series are compatible with the Fire platform as of today (hardware and software). These games are: Tangram Numbers Words Newton Masterpiece Monster Super Studio - Mickey & Friends, Princess & Incredibles 2. All the other Osmo apps, such as Coding Awbie, Coding Jam, Coding Duo, Detective Agency and PizzaCo, will become available to play on Fire tablets in the next few weeks, and no later than January 31, 2019, once the apps have been updated for Fire. MindRacers is the only Osmo game that will not become compatible with Fire tablets due to hardware constraints. The Osmo game pieces themselves are all interchangeable between iPad and Fire tablets, however, a Fire base & reflector are required to play Osmo games on a Fire tablet.
