Perfect for making my hemp tofu. Absolutely love it

I recently got a great Japanese cookbook that has a lot of recipes my other cookbooks didn't have. Tofu was one of the recipes so I had to get myself a nice hinoki wood press. Making the tofu was much easier than making the soy milk. I'll need a pair of heavy gloves when I do it again because the hot soy leavings were just too hot to squeeze easily. The press itself is so simple but it does just what it needs to. It's very nice that it comes with nigari because it can be difficult to find sometimes. This is liquid nigari so make sure you follow the instructions for diluting it properly. It also comes with a cloth to line the box with which gives the tofu its signature outer texture. If you've never made tofu it's something you should definitely try!

The media could not be loaded. There was a slight flaw on the wood on sight which I would otherwise have made a big deal of and definitely returned, knowing myself. But this tofu set is so well equipped with the addicting scent from Hinoki, I just couldn’t bring myself to. Not forgetting, it has made a perfect piece of tofu, yielded 400g of tofu from 300g of soybeans. I love it. And SO WILL U

This is a nice looking piece of well-constructed hinoki cypress gear. But the seller did not bother to make any effort at providing instructions for its use. Japanese language instructions are included, but not a single word in English. I could try to do the best I can in figuring out how to use it, but at this price, it's not worth the effort. I would say to the seller, don't bother to sell into the American market if you're not going to take the time and expense to have your instructions translated for the use of the buyer.UPDATE: I subsequently found quite adequate instructions in English posted on the website within one of the photos depicting the item at the original item sale site on Amazon. I increased the rating to 4 stars. A printout of this should be included in the shipped item, rather than a set of instructions fully in Japanese.

High quality tofu press that seems well made. The wood is real cypress wood and the cheesecloth it comes with is perfectly sized for lining the mold.Instructions for tofu are included and easy to follow (but in Japanese). You can reduce the beans to about 100g of beans soaked in 300ml water + cooked in an additional 650ml water. It will yield about 700ml of soy milk and tofu still comes out great. (Original recipe calls for an equivalent of 150g beans for the same amount of water).

Unable to read directions

I can’t believe how well made this is! The wood is sanded to a super smooth finish. This would make a great gift.

First chance I will. Initial opinion, quality as always with Japanese made products. Trust worthy.
