The story of a matchmaker
I'm a passionate fan of Jane Austen and treated myself to all her books in cloth bound version. The cover design is gorgeous and striking.Emma is a wonderful story of a wealthy but not very wise matchmaker who's meddling causes some unfortunate incidents but true to Austen there's a happy ending. Definitely worth reading. It's surprising how many movies and adaptions have been made based on this plot - Clueless starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd and BBC adaption starring Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong are my favourites.

Emma clothbound book
I Love these Jane Austin clothbound books this one will be added to my collection.I only gave 3 stars as I am very disappointed with the addition of a sticky label on the back with the bar code and price on. I understand you need to have these bar codes on books, but sticking it to the back of a beautifully bound book has ruined it. I took the label off and now have a sticky patch and it’s pulled some of the design off.Abit of a let down on what it’s a Beautiful book.

So boring! Why does everyone lie?
What's going on? Is everyone too scared to say it's boring just because it's a 'classic'?First of all, the entire first bit is just a dull conversation between family members (which would be boring in your own home). It starts to get more interesting when Emma befriends this other girl, but instead of giving her a makeover (like in Clueless) they just wander around together. Then, when Emma tries to set her up with a man it still remains just as boring! i didn't finish the last few chapters (maybe it gets more interesting?) but i found this book very dull. All the films of it, particularly Clueless, build up a false expectation for a good book. What a wasted opportunity!

Listening pleasure
I'm only two discs into this set yet, so I'm making my remarks 4 star - but the signs are good.I'm enjoying the clear diction of Jenny Agutter, and as I've been reading the first chapters along with her on CD, I can confirm that it really is word-for- word.Audio books can take a bit of getting used to. I've listened to some where the voice of the auditor is plain wearying especially after listening to it for hours. Until you find a favourite "voice" to follow it can be a hit-and-miss choice. So - I'll look for more of J.A's unabridged work ... both Austen, and Agutter.Downside? It may be personal thing, but I found at first that the story is narrated at a faster clip than I would have read it myself. Of course, there is a whole book to narrate, and it's 12 discs long, already! I'm getting used to the brisker pace.

Stickiness abounds!
It’s surely superfluous to review a novel as well-known as Emma. What does need commenting on is the packaging. I bought this as a present for someone - so I really did NOT want it to arrive with a sticky label on the back displaying the price. When I removed the sticky label it left a dark mark on the cloth cover which has proved impossible to remove. A great shame - a beautifully presented edition spoilt quite unnecessarily. Someone needs to understand that sticky labels on clothbound books are not a good idea!
