Very Potent Laxative
Be careful how much of this stuff you use! The instructions on the package suggest you take "3 grams to 5 grams twice daily." If I followed those instructions, I'd be in the bathroom for most of the day! Seriously, 1 or 2 grams every other day is plenty -- at least for me. This stuff just doesn't agree with my digestive system, as it induces several explosive bowel movements within a short period of time. Yes, it "cleans you out," but in an unpleasant way. It's almost as bad as the colonoscopy "prep" you have to drink before going in for that dreaded procedure. Maybe it works differently on other people, but it's way too potent for my sensitive digestive system. I'll stick with Metamucil.

Traditional Ayurvedic Herbs.
This powder is a mixture of three herbs that have a positive reputation in India. Some years ago I took triphala in capsule form and it helped relieve constipation. Later I tried a different formulation and it did not help me at all. So now I’m trying this powder, which is the advantage of no additives that might cause a problem.I put a small amount of this in a smoothie. The first time I did this, it gave me reflux. (Many things give me reflux.) So I stopped taking it for a few days and then started with just a tiny bit. I am up to a quarter teaspoon. I’m not sure whether I can reach a therapeutic dose without it coming back up in my throat. But in the meantime I can give you a few comments on the product. It comes in a resealable bag. You may want to transfer it to a jar. It has a spicy smell. I believe the taste is bitter but in a smoothie or chocolate shake, the taste is hidden. The encyclopedia states there is a lack of scientific research on triphala. However, it has a long history of use in India.

This one may give you digestive issues so be advised of that, it gave my daughter heartburn and and she did not like the taste so I tried it myself and had no problem and I masked the taste with fruit and had no issues. Neither of us can attest to the results but it may not work for everyone. This item is good quality and it is very much worth the purchase. It arrived in good condition and I have found no flaws with the product and I fully recommend it. Great purchase! 4 stars.*Thank you for taking the time to read my review and if it helped you make an informed decision either way about this product please let me know by taking a quick moment of your time to vote it Helpful so I can keep track of my most helpful reviews. Easy to Use, Nice Presentation, Good Value
Before I received this packet, I was familiar with Triphala as an Ayurvedic daily regimen remedy for all body times to keep digestion clear and working properly, adding vigor to one's health by eliminating intestinal issues.I used to take a rather large pill of it each day from a reputable brand, until I started getting reflux and had to stop. It may not have been the pill but the titanium dioxide coating. That is an issue with me with taking a lot of supplements I'd like to take. I've also taken a mash of it that Indian friends shared with me - part of their daily routine. But I didn't like taking in so much sugar in the mash.I am very happy to have the option of preparing the Triphala the way I want with this very fine powder. I like to put a pinch in everything from tea to chicken pot pie - just before I eat it. I never taste or feel any difference. If I take the powder from my finger to the mouth, it is quite bitter. But I feel a lift from it.Another reviewer mentioned putting it in smoothie - this is another excellent way to take it.Other reviewers have provided background on the benefits of this ancient 3 fruit powder formula that has been in household use in India for thousands of years. So, I won't reiterate something you can research and read for yourself in so many places on the internet besides amazon reviews. My experience of the product is that it is excellent.I believe in the quality they are presenting. The packet seems decent - no zip bag will work to completely close right again after poring fine powder out as little bits of powder get stuck in the mechanism, preventing a complete seal. It is better than no seal however. I use the seal, then fold it over a few times and clip the top in place. Alternately, you may wish to place the contents into a sanitary glass jar that seals well to keep the properties of the powder most intact. Packaging could be better in such a jar, but perhaps the jar would add a lot more money to the ticket price, so I am content with it as is. I have plenty of spice jars I can re-use to fill with this product. Be sure to read up and understand how Ayurvedic herbs work. Depending on your body, you may experience discomfort, as other people have reported. Use common sense and begin slowly with a pinch a day, building up the amount taken orally slowly. It would be good to seek counsel from an Ayurvedic specialist. Recommended!
