Is this a kit, or just the lone drill?

DCF899B is the DCF899 impact with a detent anvil sold as a (B) bare tool. DCF899HB is the DCF899H impact with a (H) hog ring anvil* sold as a (B) bare tool. DCF899M1 is the DCF899 impact with detent anvil sold as a kit with charger, one (1) 4Ah battery, and a bag. DCF899HP2 is the DCF899H impact with hog ring anvil* sold as a kit with charger, two (2) 5Ah batteries, and a bag *Difference between detent and hog ring: Detent holds socket more securely but must be put on so pin lines up with hole in impact socket & will need a small screwdriver or the like to release. Hog ring allows one to put on and pull off impact sockets by hand, though usually pretty difficult at first until broken in. Of course you should only use impact sockets/extensions If you put a hand socket (usually chrome) on a hog ring it will lock on and you will need a tool to get it off because the indentations are different. That's also a good way to break the hog ring, but if that happens they are cheap and easy to replace. Detents are usually more suited for situations where socket changes are infrequent like in a factory setting & hog rings for where frequent changes are needed like automotive work.

What if I had a lug on a wheel that needs torqued to 80 ft lbs?

Anyone reading this needs to know you should ALWAYS use a good quality torque when re installing wheels!!! I have used this to get the truck or trailer tire changed on the road but as soon as I am off the road or back home I go torque the wheels. Besides the obvious that you don't want your wheels to come off, not using a torque wrench warps brake rotors!!! What happens is if you are even off 10 fibs from opposing lugs when you heat that rotor up by using your brakes then rotor will start to warp from under even pressures. Don't believe me.... ask EBC.... you can get away with it on trailer drum brakes, but w 85k on my HD I still have the original rotors, my buddy that didn't believe me is now on his 3rd set of rotors in 120k miles, he now torque his on too. Plus it is way safer knowing your wheels are on to spec, your life might not be worth the extra 5 mins, but the family your tire hits is..... be safe all..

is this compatible with the standard 20volt max 3.0 battery packs?

Yeah you can use any of the 20v batteries it's just you get much better runtime out of the 5.0ah batteries

Which impact is better and best dewalt dcf899hb 20v max xr brushless high torque 1/2" impact wrench with hog ring anvil or with detent anvil?

We use ours almost everyday in our job, and we love it, the reversing torque is what you need to look at, and this one at the time of purchase was the best, and it out performs our air impact , with the 5 amp battery. this was a great purchase.
