Before purchasing this product, my knives were really blunt. I’ve only used the stones twice on my favorite kitchen knife and it stays sharp for longer. If you use the stones, correctly your knives will be very sharp.

the quality is decent with quite a heft on each of the 2 stones. The Wooden base is surprisingly sturdy and doesn't slip too easily. Do yourself a favor and only use the angle guide to get an initial angle then stick to feel as you'd get much better results.Sharpens well enough to cut through paper and passes the tomato test with flying colors, but can't go as sharp as to shave off arm hair, though that should be fine for most home cooks anyway.

I received the product broken

Unfortunately, all the crits there are the same. 400 and 1000 have the same effect. Not counting the 3000/8000. Those grits are just color different, but don't do the sharpening well. Unlucky of me, I can't return, since I tashed the box.
