A ride I didn't expect...but glad I did!
If you're squeamish when it comes to gore, turn around......OR if you want to step out of your comfort zone and into the front seat of a bloody, sweat and adrenaline-soaked hotrod of a read? Buckle up.With well-tensioned pacing like a well-built rollercoaster, The Black Goat Motorcycle Club lets you see just far enough to know something's coming but never far enough to know what exactly that might be.But when you finally see what you're in store for, you continually check your mental seatbelt to make sure it's functioning. With characters you actually care about, this story keeps slowly winding up like a garage door spring until it explodes and blows the garage door out into the middle of the street!During the entire read, I kept wanting this to be made into a film. You actually want to know more about the players involved but are aware that any more would kill the pace and be unnecessary to this story. This won't be everyone's cup....but if you like gasoline-soaked, heart-pumping action mixed with an unfolding mystery that keeps escalating with every new revelation in the best, and uniquely well-thought out, way possibleDamn it was a fun read!Read it yourself.I just finished it....I need a drink.

Love your horror extreme, supernatural, with kickin' characters?
Review: THE BLACK GOAT MOTORCYCLE CLUB By Jason MurphyThis novel is so extreme, but boy is it riveting!! I usually don't choose motorcycle club-themed books (that's reading out of my comfort zone) but the title sold me. I had expected Satanism (Baphomet), but instead I got Lovecraft, the supernatural, and then--debut author Jason Murphy took two overdone horror tropes, turned them inside out and upside down and tossed them in my face, and oh did he make them rock!! Not only are there really well-done characterizations, and non-stop gore, but there are not one, not two, but four kickin' female characters (and they sure show up the guys!).If you think your stomach can stand it, devour this novel. Jason Murphy, you're rockin'

A Gore-Splattered Good Time
BGMC is one of those stories that feels right at home at a rickety drive-in circa 1984 or a grindhouse marathon at the old theater on the bad side of town. It's amazingly fast-paced and fires on all cylinders almost immediately. The characters are that great blend of likeable and crass that makes them stand out from what would have otherwise been an overly serious and dour story in the hands of another writer. However, Jason Murphy don't play like that. Jason Murphy is going to show you characters who fight for their lives, despite the near-constant, and often in-progress, threat of dismemberment and disembowelment. There's some nice twists that play off classic monster movie tropes, and the overall arc feels fresh while also calls to mind the gore-coated creature features of the 80's. This is a story that desperately needs to be brought to life with latex masks, rod-controlled puppets, red food coloring, and probably starring Danny Glover.Thumbs up! Grab some popcorn and give it a read!

Suspense, guts and gore!
This book caught me from the beginning and wouldn't let go until the very end. The best kind of horror is the surprising kind- Jason Murphy had a knack for description and gore that fills you up and drains you at the same time. I find myself unable or unwilling to give away any details in this review, but I will say that the end is surprisingly (due to the circumstances) the most satisfying I've read in a horror novel in forever. When I figured out what was happening, about a page before it happened, I smiled through the rest of the read.

Monsterfest!
Chaos rules in this story of an epic battle between werewolves and a group of people trapped in a hospital! Oh!.... and throw in the king of vampires as well! This is actually a really good book full of lots of bloody action, and it hurtles through to the end like a speeding bullet. I'm hoping for a sequel?

A Rip Roaring Great Read!
Jason Murphy has all the cylinders firing and the throttle wide open! If you want to read a book so well written that it feels like you're watching an action film, buy this book! The characters are immediately believable, the story grabbed my attention from page 1, and the ending is priceless. This is classic horror updated, remixed, and reanimated -- in all the best ways. Take the weekend off, pop some popcorn, curl up in your favorite chair and hold on for dear life! You're in for a hell of a ride!

Awesome Read!
This book is exactly the the breath of fresh air the horror genre needs. The book has an array of characters that fit the archetypes you would find in many horror/siege fiction, but with a wink and a nod to the savvy reader Murphy then does the real magic and gives these genre staples enough depth and personality that they become real characters that you care about and want to see triumph. This is a book that knows it is and is proud to be genre fiction, but it doesn't use that as an excuse for lazy or by the numbers writing. Instead Murphy shows us just how good this type of story can be when helmed by a creative mind who sees genre not as a limiter, but as a chance to have fun and explore. This is a book made by a guy who loves this stuff way down in his bones and that spills over onto every page (as does the blood). What are you waiting for? Quit reading what I'm saying and go order the book already. You can thank me later.

Horror Done Right!
A fun, fast paced gorefest that doesn't waste much time getting to the point while still succeeding at developing the characters and making you care about what could happen to them while giving you the most disgusting, hateful villains you've probably across from while reading a book.Jason Murphy pulls zero punches and delivers one crazy, bloody ride that may have you hearing a John Carpenter score in your head while you're reading it. Action packed with a Grindhouse feel from beginning to end with a couple of surprises, this is an author we need to start paying attention to.

A Great Debut from Mr Murphy
THE BLACK GOAT MOTORCYCLE CLUB is the debut novel from professional dreamweaver and internet personality Jason Murphy. For those not familiar with him, Jason is known for his work on National Geographic show HACKING THE SYSTEM with magician Brian Brushwood. He is also a former commentator for the video game website RAGE SELECT, and was also a prominent member of film review site SPILL.COM before it shut down in 2013.Jason's love of horror and pop culture shines through in the language, from classic horror movie references to the entire novel itself, which plays out like a grindhouse thriller. The plot, such as it is, is a simple siege story; a number of characters are trapped within a hospital while supernatural forces bear down upon them. It is a simple premise to be sure, but Murphy's trademark charm and wit come through in his writing, giving the story some much needed personality. Characters are distinct and interesting, and Murphy is willing to kill them off whenever and however he feels like, in whatever grisly ways he can think of.The prose here is colourful and descriptive, which can either be a pro or a con depending on how weak a disposition you possess. Murphy conjures vivid scenes of violence, and nothing is left to the imagination. It is unfortunate then, that despite being well-written, a few mistakes have slipped through the cracks. There is the odd bit of repetition at some points, or the occasional punctuation error. However, these are few and far between and do not impact the readers experience much.Murphy makes no secret that the antagonists of the novel, the titular motorcycle club, are werewolves, and he introduces them right off the bat. Here, they are depraved creatures, driven by a wicked intelligence and bestial desire to feed. These werewolves are essentially unstoppable to an almost comedic degree, but Murphy manages to ensure that they are a constant threat. Without spoiling the story, there is an element introduced that I thought was quite cliche, although it was utilised well. The pacing is tight, and the story hurtles towards a smart and satisfying conclusion.Despite BGMC being a very enclosed story, Murphy also hints at a larger world beyond the novel. This world-building comes across in the dialogue, but also in the form of a secretive organisation that could open the door for future stories.THE BLACK GOAT MOTORCYCLE CLUB is a great read. Fast, exciting, and unpredictable, Murphy's debut novel has me hungry for more.

Amazing read
I've watched Jason Murphy for quite some time now with The Modern Rogue. So as soon as I found out he wrote a book I just had to read it. I got the book and read it in a week span, which I've only been able to do with 1 other author. This book grabs you within the first 3 chapters! I just couldn't put the book down. Later on in the book I kept thinking, how can there still be so many pages left, it felt like that could have been the finale. But it just kept topping itself. I would highly recommend this book if anything that deals with supernatural things peaks your interest.
