Sun Gro Seedling Mix, 1.5 Cu. Ft., Black Gold-(1411002.CFL001.5P)

We’ve used this for 2-3 years now for starting tomato, pepper, eggplant, basil, kale, broccoli, cabbage, and flower seedlings indoors on our grow bench. It’s nice and light and drains well.

This is a terrific medium for getting the seed vendors' stated germination percentages or better. That being said, you're best off transplanting shortly after germination or using a thin layer (depth about 3 - 4x the diameter of the seeds you're starting) of this seedling mix on top of standard container mix.I got terrific germination rates in SunGro mix, but seedling growth stalled badly (especially tomatoes and peppers) even with addition of balanced organic fertilizers. Everything proceeded normally after transplanting the seedlings into standard peat/compost seedling mix.I restarted some tomato and pepper seeds of failed varieties in a thin layer of Sun Gro over the standard mix, and got incredible growth of strong seedlings - bigger plants in 3 weeks than with either one alone at 6 weeks.

Had trouble finding this locally. So glad I was able to have it delivered. Great moisture retention, the price was right and it worked exactly How we needed it to.

I have tried several seed starting mixes over the years and this one is the only one I will use from now on. I start heirloom tomatoes and peppers from seed each year and this is the only soil available on Amazon that I've found they do really well in. It should be noted that this DOES NOT contain fertilizer (no seed starting mix should) so seedlings will either have to be transplanted into a fertilizer rich material once they develop a couple true leaves, or you will need to add a fertilizer to this soil.

I like this seeding mixture. It is the only type of seeding mixture I want to use in the future. In fact, this is my second purchase of the same, the other bag was purchased locally but later, I could not find it locally. I was glad to find it available on Amazon.

Seems like by weight it is a small bag. But great stuff.

This soil is a very good seed starter mix. The best I have used with a lot less sticks and other debris in it. Pricy but good

Worked great for me this garden season. I started probably 300 plants in it. I tried another brand that was impossible to wet. Most waterproof substance I'm ever seen. This wets a lot easier. No clumps, chunks or sticks. Great product IMO.
