Thick decals, great model!
I'm not familiar with this new Macross series, but I got this because it's gorgeous. The only drawback is the decals. Bandai has chosen include flexible stickers instead of waterslide decals. The paint job would be impossible to replicate at this scale, so there isn't much choice.Stickers are somewhat fiddly but they're stretchy, so conform to the shape of the plane. Panel lines are hidden due to the thickness of the stickers, but are replicated in the stickers. Unfortunately, this eliminates the modeler's choice to use weathering or any other painting technique.Instead of a transparent canopy, the nose has a solid grey part with the canopy lines molded in. The coloring of the canopy is replicated via the stickers. Although it looks doubtful, the stickers do fit exactly over the canopy.

A little kit with big detail
For a tiny, very inexpensive kit with only a few parts, the VF-31J is pretty impressive. As is standard for Bandai, parts were crisp, finely detailed, and snapped together easily with no sanding or glue needed. There's an amazing amount of surface detail for a model of this size, so I'd highly recommend taking the time to do panel lining. You'll find landing gear doors, control surfaces, gun muzzles and more represented. I showed a close-up picture of my VF-31J to a friend, who mistook it for a 10-12 inch model. That's saying something! It's molded in white and gray; you may want some darker or metallic paint for the engines. All of the markings on the top are stickers, as is the canopy. I found those to be a mixed bag. They're thin and adhere very well, even those that go over uneven surfaces and around curves. But once they're down, they're down. Some of them cover large areas, so if you align one incorrectly, there's not much you can do to fix it. There are no stickers for the bottom, although the detail there partially makes up for this. Some of the areas of color on the bottom of the "real" thing are bordered by panel lines, so it's fairly easy to hand-paint them. While this isn't a kit that's likely win you a modeling competition, several hours of effort will give you something that's sleek and eye-catching. I made some mistakes with the stickers, but they're hard to see. My Siegfried is currently keeping watch on the airspace over my workbench and I'm happy to have it in my collection.

but it was in great condition and easy to assemble
not only did the product arrive earlier then it was scheduled to even be shipped, but it was in great condition and easy to assemble, and unlike the Macross frontier YF-29 1/100 scale this one can be angled when attached to the base.

The Valkyrie was accurate to the image but sadly since in the description it did Not say the actual size I ended up having to purchase a 2nd kit slightly larger since this one was no bigger than a box of Matches the tiny old match boxes

Awesome
I have been a master modeler for well over 50 years and all of these models are incredible. The detail is amazing, the quality impicable. I am collecting them all. More than worth the cost.

This is a small model but isn't that hard to assemble. There are some basic pictures on the underside of the lid. Arrived early!

Easy to build and doesn't take too much space to display.
This model jet is small but easy to put together. It doesn't take too much space to put anywhere. The instructions are in Japanese but the pictures are very informative on building it. The only issue I had was on the small decals. I put on the ones I could, mainly the larger ones. Some of the small ones I didn't even bother with. But the model still turned out pretty good.
