The "kimono" has been a staple of Japanese history and culture since ancient times. Today, a Japanese woman usually owns only one kimono --typically a furosode kimono which is worn for the coming of age ceremony on her 19th birthday. This modernized take on a traditional kimono was inspired by the tea houses and gardens found throughout Japan. The words TEN-WA-JIN, literally meaning "Heaven, Harmony and Man" is often inscribed on the entrance ways. Our Mixis Ten-Wa-Jin Dress is wrapped with an obi sash complete with a musubi knot. In ancient times, the knots were believed to banish malicious spirits.
