Bold, Smooth, No Burnt Taste
This is excellent coffee. We switched from 8 o'clock espresso roast to Volcanica Espresso and we love it. No bitter aftertaste, no smokey flavor, we use it in our drip coffee machine and will also use it in our stove-top espresso maker. Very happy to have made this choice, we'll be on a subscription from here on out.

My new favorite brand
I became a bit of a coffee snob on a trip to Bali. The volcanic soil there there, and local preference for dark roasts, creates wonderful local brews full of flavor and character. I've searched a while for a roast of that profile at an acceptable price point, and this more than hits the mark. And my French press, okay. There's at least a half inch of crema sitting on top with every poor. The brew is never bitter, and they end up using less grounds in total than I expect (which stretches the bag a little further?). My new favorite coffee, and worth every penny.

Clogs my DeLongi espresso machine
Delicious and smooth but that does me no good because it’s ground too fine for all but the most expensive espresso machines. I’ve tried multiple other espresso blends and I’ve never had issues like this with any of them. It’s a shame because it’s really good.

Volcanica: Costa Rican Coffee, Dark Roast--Strong smell, bad aftertaste!
Volcanica has some great coffee. Their Guatemala medium roast is wonderful. I googled up what kind of coffee is best ice cold. Costa Rica and Guatemala came up. Volcanica Guatemala is SO EXCELLENT. I decided to try their Costa Rican Dark Roast. Both volcanic soil coffees but polar opposites. The Costa Rican coffee has a strong chemical smell. I brewed up a cup. You don't know till you try. The after taste of this Costa Rican coffee is over powering and even sweetener and creamer cant fix. It was very disappointing. NOTE TO SELF: don't buy a $20 bag to try a new coffee. The Volcanica Guatemala medium roast is smooth, mellow, great. Both are pricey, same price in fact. But, wow are they different.
