It's sound
Recently purchased a new Sony Bravia smart TV to replace my old one which was showing signs of the end of days. The sound on the new purchase just like the previous was nothing to shout about. Typical of slim TV's with compact speakers. Decided for the first time to invest in a Soundbar. Being a virgin in these matters i trolled through many options and plumped for this one at what appeared to be a reasonable price. It arrived next day and within 10mins it was up and running. It comes with a optical lead but fortunately i had a spare HDMI high speed lead which i connected via Arc. The bar itself is 23 inches in lenth, so it sat in front between the legs of my 42 inch TV perfectly. The difference in sound is quite telling considering how the quality of sound on the likes of Sky Movies etc can be poor as well as digital TV channels. Clear Voice helps tremendously and Bass extention gives the boom.. Remote is easy to use and is ok once you suss it. You can download the soundbar app onto your or whatever which is more informative as you can see what your options and what your doing. Also has Bluetooth which is very good for playing music from Spotify etc from the bar. Overall from being a soundbar virgin I'm now broken in and happy. 👍

Great sound for a compact sound bar
I moved into a house with a rather large living room (22ft x 20ft). The sound from my TV was not adequate for such a large room. Due to the position of my TV there was not enough room for a full size soundbar, which are usually 90cm or larger, so I purchased the Yamaha C20. I was expecting it to be an improvement over my TV's in-built speakers, but I was not expecting it to be able to fill the whole room with vibrant audio. I was blown away by the quality and depth of sound from such a small sound bar. Considering it has no sub-woofer it is also quite bassy. It seems to amplify voices over background audio more than my TV audio did which makes voices extremely clear. It's also really easy to use. I just connected it with a HDMI cable to the ARC input on my TV and the TV's volume control operates the volume of the C20 and it automatically turns on and off with my TV. Great little product from Yamaha.

Crisp, clear sound
Wanted a decent sound bar to improve clarity of voices as was increasingly struggling to catch speech when actors mumbled or were drowned by background music! Also wanted bar to sit on shelf between tv stand so wanted max 60cm. Narrowed choice down to Bose or Yamaha as both were size required and had clearvoice setting. Went for Yamaha as came up in Black Friday sale at £167 (Bose was £239). Connected via Arc HDMI so tv remote would switch both tv and bar on/off and adjust vol. You need to purchase an HDMI cable if you want to connect via this method and I suggest getting an 8k HDMI cable for better/faster signal. 10 mins to unpack and plug in and immediate massive improvement in sound. Speech is crystal clear and sound bar is everything I wanted. Remote is simple and effective, there is an app that can be downloaded to your android smartphone that can then be used to change settings BUT you MUST have Android 9 or higher (I have moto e5 and Motorola don't support their phones so I am stuck with Android 8 (oreo) so can't download/use remote app). Disappointed that this isn't mentioned in sales patter on Amazon and I had to search the small print on Yamaha site to find this out! Simple two cable connection to set up (power & HDMI or optical) and bar comes with simple quick set up sheet, worth going into Yamaha UK site and download full instruction booklet (some 97 pages!) as it contains some useful info as to various display codes and settings that can be changed via certain key sequences). All in all a good buy with superior sound, just a shame Yamaha expect customers to go and buy latest smartphone so as to use their remote app!

Great sound quality for the price
Having ordered a few soundbars for comparison, I was surprised that this one came out on top, beating both Samsung and a Bose 600 at twice the price. It has a warm sound that many soundbars are lacking, and voices are clear without being harsh, so that I haven't yet needed the voice boost option. Surround sound is basically non-existent, and to my ears it sounds best when just set to the stereo sound output. But that is to be expected from such a small bar. It does have a surprising amount of bass though, again given its size and the lack of a separate bass unit. It also benefits from the option to switch off the lights on the soundbar, which is great when watching in dark conditions. Something which I wish all manufacturers offered. There are a few 'hidden' options mentioned in the depths of a manual only found online, and which are available through an arcane combination of button presses. Some of these are very useful, such as increased compression - basically the 'night-time viewing' option - so it is a shame they aren't easier to access. Don't expect anything close to surround sound or dolby atmos. But as a way of upgrading basic television speakers without spending a fortune on a full dolby atmos sytstem, it is the best soundbar I've found.

A cost effective way to improve the sound of your TV
This is a great no-frills soundbar. Note that it does not come with a HDMI cable, so if you want to connect using ARC you'll need to buy one (< £5). This soundbar does not attempt any form of virtual surround, instead focussing on producing a rich sound and clear speech. Using ARC the AV sync is good. It comes with a remote, or you can download and use the Yamaha app on your smartphone instead, personally I find the latter much more useful. When watching TV and movies I recommend setting the subwoofer to 4 (max) and enabling both Bass Expansion and Clear Voice - this produces a great result for me at home. My living room is huge, so ignore any "only for small rooms" claims.

The sound bar King
Connects straight forward optical connection .Sound is very good particular as mentioned in other reviews crystal clear on voices and right bass weight, CORRECT amount of bass not over powering .Size this is small but works well with my new evo 65" LG Television . I like Yamaha products just purchased its network receiver, and are streaming amazon music etc . The yamaha sound bar is well made and robust will work with 43" just as well .NB using without app ,remote control supplied OK. You pay for quality here and performance .Recommended no hesitation.

What a Difference!
I purchased the Yamaha C20 soundbar primarily for the Clear Voice feature, as my 70-something mom is hard of hearing. She had been struggling to hear the news and all of her must watch programs. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, nor did I want an overly large soundbar. The current living room TV is a 4 year-old 48” mid-range Sony Bravia. With the C20 measuring 60cm (around 24”), it fit our TV perfectly. Soundbar arrived a few days earlier than expected which was great. What was even better was that the Yamaha C20 was a cinch to set up. There is a companion app available for iOS/Android, and it is also easy to use/setup. (Search for Yamaha SB Remote). I had the soundbar hooked up to my (very basic) Sony Bravia in a matter of minutes. Was immediately blown away how great *everything* sounded when the TV audio was fed through the soundbar. TV programs and news were much easier for the whole family to hear, music streamed from my iPhone sounded fantastic, too. The real standout for me, aside from the Clear Voice function, was the movie setting. I rented an action movie from the iTunes Store the first Saturday we had it. The difference! It was a significantly improved viewing experience over watching movies on my previously soundbar-free television. While it doesn't give you "Wow-It's-Like-I'm-At-The-Cinema" surround sound --certainly not at this price point -- it does greatly improve film sound, the dialogue and your overall enjoyment of whatever you choose to watch. Prior to this purchase, I was someone who wasn’t overly convinced that a soundbar was a necessity for the living room TV. Having had the C20 for all of five days now, I cannot imagine going back to my smart TV’s tiny, tinny speakers! If you're a home theatre aficionado, this soundbar will most likely be too basic for your needs. However, if you just want to improve the sound quality on your entry or mid-range smart tv at a decent price and don't care about whether your soundbar has Dolby Atmos and/or DTS:X or all the other high priced bells and whistles, the Yamaha C20 soundbar is a great buy. The only very minor niggle is the soundbar will switch itself off after 10-15 minutes of not being used, but as other reviewers have said, this is not a big deal and should not deter the majority of people from considering this fantastic little soundbar.

Wonderful sound, excellent bang for buck
Got this to go under my monitor on my PC. Wanted something that had optical, as well as bluetooth, and HDMI in case I ever hook it up to a TV. All the reviews on the major audio sites rated this highly - and they weren't wrong! Amazingly easy to setup (literally just plug and play), there's a remote included with it but I use the soundbar controller app on my phone, and it sounds fantastic, and this is half the price of the Denon which has a similar rating. Really glad I went with a proper audio company for a sound bar - this thing is great.
