

Red onions are cultivars of the onion, and have purplish-red skin and white flesh tinged with red. They are most commonly used in cooking. They're best raw in salads, salsas, and as a toppings on burgers and sandwiches because of how mild they are. They can be used in cooked dishes as well, but the onion flavor isn't nearly as strong when they're cooked. Also chop or grate it into sauces, salad dressings, or right on top of your salad, poultry or seafood. Snack on candied ginger or make it part of your dessert. Use pickled ginger as a condiment.
