totally useless
this was a very overpriced piece of broken junk. It wouldnt work plus parts were falling off of it! Don't bother ordering plus they want to charge me for return fee for this piece of junk.

I like analog meters and this one works.
I use it to check outboard motor peak volts and other things. And it's a fourth the price of the Steven's PRV I was using. There are several digital meters out there that can be used with an adapter but I find the analog meter much easier to read. I'm happy with it and the quality is ok.

Best price for a DVA capable meter.
This is an old-school analog meter. You have to set the scale range and there is no auto-off feature, but it was the only one inexpensive enough to justify buying for occasional use. I needed to check DVA on an outboard motor. This meter allowed me to properly diagnose the problem and to order the right part. Since ordering the wrong part would be a two hundred dollar mistake, the meter was a good investment.

ESI 530 DVA Defective
This is the meter recommended to analyze capacitive discharge ignitions and small engine charging systems.Recieved my first meter and it was defective. I was getting reads all over the scale, nothing seemed to be consistant and or no reads at all. I called ESI the manufacturer 3 times with no return call. When attempting to get additional reads, I inadvertantly touched the selector switch and found that the reads became more consistant. Turns out the selector switch, when on the 200 and 400 volt scales was not making proper contact internally. I returned the meter to amazon for a replacement. Amazon immediately sent another to replace the other. Turns out the replacement had a defective selector switch on the lower voltage ranges. Once again I called ESI the manufacturer to see if they could send me a meter that definitely worked. They never returned my call. Finally gave up and bought a meter with DVA adapter on ebay. What has frustrated me the most is that I waited to receive the first meter, then waited for the second defective meter, then had to wait for my ebay purchase. Total 4 weeks to get a tool to analyze my boat ignition system. The customer service at ESI the meter manufacturer leaves a lot to be desired. Amazon must have received a shipment of defective meters. Amazon did their job flawlessly. To sum up, in retrospect I should have just ordered a DVA adapter and a multimeter that can read as much as 600 volts in the DC range.

Good Price
This meter replaced one that had been in use for 25+ years. It has worked flawlessly and you can't beat the price when compared to some of our specialty vendors.
