Update from a previous 1 star
This part installed perfectly on our new Kohler tub, however the stopper will not close so that water stays in the tub. Called Kohler and they were very helpful. They are sending me a new stopper part which I should receive tomorrow. We’ll see how that one works. I’ll post an update when I get it.Update: I had a master plumber take a look at our drain and found that the the piece that fits on top of the tub drain did not have a proper amount of plumbers paddy (installed by the original contractor) to create the necessary seal to stop the water when the drain plug was lowered. It is working perfectly and after the correction, I’d have to rate this Five Stars *****.

Good quality chrome but thin PVC pipe
The chrome is a good quality, doesn't scratch, relatively thick. The pipe is cheap quality PVC. Very thin, and brittle. Spout mechanism works easily, closes fully, no water leaks and drain open up enough for a quick drining of water from tub. Overall, good purchase and MUCH cheaper on Amazon than in a plumbing supply store and MUCH better quality control than HDepot, where these type of boxes get picked clean by shoplifters. Good, safe, buy on this site.

Nice looking drain
Nice looking drain. Clean look and the PVC, which had me kind of iffy, is no issue. Its sched 40 pipe so its pretty rugged. Only issue I had which has nothing to do with this product is my piping is copper and a bit tough to get at in the floor so I had to be a bit inventive to hook up the new drain with a 50 year old set up in the house. Overall it worked out OK. The look is nice if you want the satin finish and a slick/clean look. There is this product with and without the tubing. I was able to find a warehouse type deal and my cost was good but if you purchase, check out the available version where you provide your own tubing. Now that the drain is totally installed I have an update. There are several issues with this set up that you need to be aware of. In my opinion they are design flaws. (1) the cable that actuates the drain stopper is too long for other than deep tub applications. I have a Kohler Villager tub for which this drain is recommended and the 14" (rather shallow tub) depth leaves lots and lots of extra cable. The issue is it is very stiff and routing it makes it awkward. Not a show stopper but inconvenient. (2) the drain in the tub does not have a long enough nut once the thick rubber washer/seal is installed. I was concerned to tighten the nut too much as I have been able to engage only a few threads. Maybe the cast iron tub is thicker than others and once you put the putty inside, the washer outside, the nut needs to be longer. Since the fixture holding the stopper mechanism is PVC I was afraid to really tighten it too much (3) Where the tub mechanism for the drain (turn knob) is located, its too close to the inside of the tub. Once you tighter the difficult to get at set screw the knob rubs on the tub when you turn it (4) on the outside of that mechanism, the overflow down pipe has a convenient swivel adapter (not bad) but the cable is too close to be able to turn the nut without seriously pushing on the cable. Poor design. Overall, this is not a bad drain and it looks really nice. However, if I were to have a need to use the stopper every day, and I was concerned about the overflow being needed all the time, I would think hard about using this set up.Another update. Want to be fair and accurate. I spent some time adjusting the overflow fittings. After a day or two, maybe the thick washer-seal squished a bit and I was able to tighten the big nut more and worked to center the fixture as good as possible. Took a bit of effort but now the knob does not rub on the tub wall, much better fit. But it did takes some finesse and fiddling.

Bought because there's no option
This is one of those annoying products that you have to buy, which is poor value for money, just because there are no other reliable or recommended options. Kohler recommends this drain for their tubs but as other reviews both here and elsewhere online have noted, the cable is far too long for some tubs such as the Elmbrook. You better hope you have some empty space behind the tub wall to fit the excess cable or else you'll be out of luck. If you try to "stuff" the cable behind the tub, you will forever stay up at night thinking when the cable will snap and your drain will be dodo. The drain costs almost 66% of the cost of some tubs which is an absolutely ridiculous price to pay for a couple of PVC pipes, a galvanized cable and a couple of metal discs with Kohler branding. Finally, both the Kohler overflow piece and the actual drain element are of such poor finish that they are already 'stained' after applying painters tape on it (to prevent scratching during the bathroom remodel) and look absolutely ugly.We have been so turned off by this experience with Kohler that we've made it a point to exclusively buy Moen or other brands for the other bathroom and kitchen remodels we are doing. If you have read this far and have not purchased a tub or have the option of returning your tub, I'd strongly suggest purchasing a brand other than Kohler so you don't have to deal with such stupidity (and price gouging) where a company can't build a proper complementary product for their own tub.
