I do a lot of vacuum sealing as part of our food storage - drawing out the oxygen/air from a package protects against freezer burn or general breakdown of foods. I currently have a Foodsaver electric vacuum sealer with a canning jar attachment so I can store food in canning jars or the special heat-sealed plastic bags. I also have a non-electric Pump-N-Seal that allows me to seal regular non-canning jars with a tape seal on top.This Bartelli food sealer is similar to my Pump-N-Seal in that it's non-electric and works by manually drawing air from the package. I really do prefer non-electric tools and appliances whenever possible and this one is well made and very useful. It comes with five valves, five clips, five heavy duty bags, the manual pump and great instructions. I sealed up some rice and quinoa today as a test. It was very simple to pierce the plastic bag with the rubber valve, easy to get the clip at the bag opening (with no wrinkles) and took literally 6 pumps to flatten down the bag and contents. Very simple and efficient!I will probably use quart and gallon zip-lock freezer bags instead of the smaller bags that came with the sealer. We have a large family and other than vacuum sealing spices or taking ground coffee portions camping, I really need larger bags. But that's the great thing about this Bartelli system - I can use any heavy duty sealing bag. I wish it came with more of the valves, but perhaps they will sell extra sets in the future.I received a complimentary Bartelli vacuum sealer for testing and review purposes. This would be a great product, if the manufacturer made wider, bigger bags and the bag clips to fit the wider bags. OR if they just made/sold wider bag clips and the additional bag plugs to go along with the wider bag clips, and sold these as an extra option. Then this would make this little manual-vacuum sealer a great product! The product works, however, with only 5 small bags; 5 small bag clips and 5 bag plugs. One can't store very much at all! As I stated, their bags are small and slender and you can't vacuum seal any bag w/o the bag clip and bag plug, together. You can almost seal any bag with this system, but the bag clips need to be bigger and more of them, along with the plugs. Enough said.

It took a couple of tries to get the hang of how to do this but once I got it down, it did work like promised. I took out a packet of pork chops I'd used this device on recently and was quite impressed..The seal had held nicely, there was no freezer burn, and the chops tasted great.I would have rated this at least a 4 if not for the bags. The bags they included worked great but they only give you five and they're relatively small. I tried using regular bags but it didn't work nearly as well. The quart sized did okay but it didn't really work with gallon sized ones. The plastic clips are too small for a bag of any size really. Even if you're okay with just using quart sized bags, you're still limited to only freezing 5 since that's all you have equipment for.It does work pretty well but I wouldn't really recommend it because of the bag thing. It really limits how much you can use it.

first I didn't get the product; had to go to amazon to resend; so didn't get it on time; and had to cook the food I bought for it.after using looked like it worked great; WRONG; about an hour later air was in the bag;Thought I did something wrong; read directions again; tried different valve/bag combos; HOURS Wasted testing!went to 'Q&A' and found multiple people with the same problem, no solution; its a shame; cheap snakewater product. I am guessing all the Amazon reviewers posted high reviews before their food was removed from storage. and possibly don't want to waste time editing a review.considering the novelty I would have really liked to use such a product; responsible energy saving and no electric hand pump for food preservation or SousVide; well...its really no better then squeezing/sucking the air out of a ziplock.someone should invent a one-way valve straw; or this product should have a working valve,since purchase and shipping hastle its been 34 days; AND I CANNOT get my REFUND. BEWARE.

it is not a real vacuum bag, althought it may like vacuum bag, but the valve will not keep air out, it leak air into the bag in one minite. 5 valve tested, all same problem. the good thing is, when you find out the problem, you can return it, money back, this give it one more star. I am sorry to give this review, but this is true. please try to improve the valve.

This is a great little device that works as promised! I have used it extensively with my own bags - which saves a lot of money and hassle. Often times sandwich type bags do not seal well enough and air leaks in. However, if use the bag sealers they provide, or a thicker bag as they recommend, there is no problem. I have also found that you can place the valves higher in the bag if you just make sure there is an air channel down to the food. I have found this to be a great product for what it is designed to do. It's well worth the investment.

It worked quite well for me. The bags included are very long and not very wide and the clips are twice the width of the bags. However, I used it on my ziploc freezer bags and it worked very well. I like it. It is great for freezing as freezer burn is almost non-existent. Pretty easy to use also.
