Minerals of Georgia: Their Properties and Occurrences (Wormsloe Foundation Nature Books)

Beautiful
Full of information. Reason for only 4 stars is the lack of photographs for a majority of gems and minerals covered. What photographs there are are beautiful, but multiple photographs of some and lack thereof for most is somewhat disappointing. Granted a internet search will provide photos, but good luck finding those specific to GeorgiaOtherwise, the updated locations and descriptions are welcomed as most are just copies from the 1950's. I do recommend this book for all interested, just do not expect a picture for every variety.

Good general reference for Georgia minerals
Very good small book with flex cover - 326 pages, not a compact that would fit in a pocket but will nicely fit in a shoulder bag. Pages are glossy and appear to resist heavy use.Over 200 minerals found in Georgia are covered. Topics for each mineral covered are Name, Class, Crystal Type, Habit, Physical Characteristics, and Occurrence. Descriptions are short, easy to read, but detailed. An 11 page Reference section and a 9 page County Index are found at the back of the book.Occurrence section descriptions are primarily general for each county, not providing exact collection sites. Have not yet field tested the occurrence descriptions. More on-line research to obtain collection locations is recommended. The occurrence section will get you to the general areas for further research.Overall, a good summary of minerals that can be found in Georgia.

Not what I expected
This is geared more towards people a little more familiar with rocks and minerals. Each is listed in alphabetical order so unless you recognize a mineral you will have to flip thru and find it. Most of the pictures are small and not very useful.

Always Check Amazon
My Dad had seen this book in a rocks and minerals catalog and told me he wanted it for Christmas. He gave me the info and told me it was available from ugapress.org at a price of $32.95. Of course, the first thing I did was search for this book on amazon.com. It was there! --exact same paperback edition -- AND -- the price was $26.52 with Prime shipping!!! My Dad was so excited to open this on Christmas! The only drawback with the book is that the print is very small. My Dad has to use his glasses and a magnifier in order to read it. A large print edition would be fantastic, but my Dad still loves this book. I would recommend it for any mineral aficionado.

Informative & Better than Most Others!
I was not surprised to find one of the authors was the director of Tellus Museum, one of my favorites in GA. Thank you for a wonderful book.
