Christian Dior Hardcover – June 1, 1996

In retrospect and to be honest, I ordered this book by mistake. The book I really wanted (and eventually got) was Francoise Giroud's spectacular _Christian Dior_ (which I've also reviewed for Amazon). This book is a retrospective of a Dior exhibition at the Museum of Metropolitian Art in 1997, and as such is a comprehensive, beautifully created overview of the exhibit, with several hundred outstanding photographs - many in full-page format - of the dresses of Dior's classic period from 1947 to 1957. The problem from my own standpoint is that the "models" in this book are all mannequins. What I need (for my website, and my own research) are pictures of the dresses and gowns as they were worn by real people. Therefore this book fell short of my own (erroneous) expectations - but it needn't fall short of yours; if you know what you're getting, it's a more than worthy volume.

Packed well and in great condition. I had used the library book as a teaching tool several years ago. I decided it would be wonderful in my collection of designer's books when I found it on Amazon.

this is a wonderful definitive book on dior from 1947- 1956, this covers his most famous years, starting with the "new look" as named by diana vreeland to the end of this era. loads of photos including close ups of embroidery details and finishing details. the boning is a work of art.

The photographs of Christian Dior's magnificent creations are breathtaking. But the writing is a tad pretentious. Unfortunately, this characteristic is a hallmark of most academic writing. Get the book anyway. Dior was an artist, a seeker of Beauty, and we're all the richer for it.

The book focuses primarily on the romantic vision and idealism of the artist and his designs, rather than functioning as a technical review concerned with fabrics and construction. As a person who admires excellence in design but otherwise cares little (or nothing) about haute couture, I felt sincerely inspired by it.

クリスチャン・ディオールの５０年代から６０年代にかけて作られたオ−トクチュールのドレスを中心に掲載。　掲載作品は言わずもがなで素晴らしく、写真アングルやサイズ的（A4程度）にも満足行く編集だと思います。　値段も大変リーズナブル且つ、資料的価値の高い内容なので、ファッションの勉強をされている方や、他にもイラスト等を描いたりする際の資料にされる方達に特にお勧めです。念のため、こちらをお選びいただく際の注意点を挙げるとすると、ジョンガリアーノ作品、エディスリマン作品とは無縁の内容である事と、イメージヴィジュアル的な内容では無い点でしょうか。あくまで、『クリスチャン・ディオール』の手掛けたオートクチュールドレスの写真資料集です。
