Q: do the wheels swivel? could I slide it under the sofa and pull it out each time I use it?

Hi, The wheels do not swivel. You fold it up and pick up the back end and tilt it up. I would think if you have one of the older sofa's with the skirt on the bottom it may fit. But I have all modern furniture so there is no space underneath. It's a nice unit for the money.

Q: has anyone had any luck propping their ipad or kindle up? I know it's designed for iphone, but wondering if it is feasible.

Yes you can prop your Kindle on it if you leave flap open. I watch you tube with my Kindle while walking.
