Powerful SOHO/Home lab router
A very capable SOHO or Home lab router. Plenty of ports - 12 SFP+ ports, two SFP28 ports, and a single Gigabit ethernet port. In my environment it easily handles 5Gbps PPPOE connection with fasttrack enabled. A few important notes:This device is not a switch even if it appears it can be used as a switch. It has no switch chip and all traffic goes through the CPU without any hardware offloading. All the SFP ports (including the SFP28 ports) are connected to the CPU using 2x25G full duplex channels. The implication for example is that fully utilizing the two SFP28 ports does not leave any bandwidth for the other ports to be used simultaneously. I managed to push through the SFP28 ports a traffic of 21Gbps where the CPU utilization gets close to 100%. In this respect this model is a unique member of the CCR2004 family. So the most suitable use case then is an environment where there is not a lot of concurrent traffic on all ports, and the Internet connection is between 2.5 and 10 Gbps (there are less expensive alternatives for 2.5Gbps and less connections). In case of an environment with a lot of concurrent traffic between all ports it should be combined with a real switch for example - the CRS317.Bottom line: highly recommended as very powerful device for a specific use case, at this price point it represents great value for money. I was also very pleased to find that I received the R3 revision, which has an improved CPU speed of 2000 MHz (vs 1700 MHz in older revisions).

Overkill for me but an amazing product.
I bought this for two reasons, the first was I was getting increasing frustrated by consumer routers and the second was I wanted to learn more about configuration and setup of products like this. I already have other mikrotik switches so adding in a mikrotik router just felt perfect. The first day of setup was a challenge with my knowledge base putting me at a disadvantage. I knew enough to follow along with the first time setup guide but also enough to try and deviate beyond in an attempt to hit stage two before getting my bearings. My network has been growing far too quickly (using the CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM and CRS504-4XQ-IN) as my home lab data needs have exploded and this router showed just how much I needed to stop and take a long look at everything to better configure. I was trying to have my truenas server run so many things that the mikrotik supported out of the box. Case and point would be wireguard, I spent hours trying to get it working on my truenas server before finding the router has it built in and it worked with almost zero headache.I would recommend unless you have already built out a router OS end to end stack before to stop and walk through the baby step guide, make notes as you go rather than jumping ahead and once it is all active using the guard rails then go back and start tinkering to your heart's content. It can be hard as the guides want you to use the management port for incoming isp and I kept trying to skip over that and bind it to one of the sfp ports but it was better to follow the instructions first, understand it all as a package then move things to better match your end goal. One final bit on documentation is that Mikrotik has a tresureturove of documentation out there and if you take the time to read and understand it you can do all kinds of things with their ecosystem so I strongly recommend that you deep dive that wall of text.

Great for the price.
I just need several isolated VLANs and site to site VPN for my home network. I never got any system error for 2 months. It works well, and great for the price.

Incredible feature set for such an inexpensive device
The feature set (both hardware and software) on this router is amazing. With 2x 25GB SFP ports and 12x 10GB SFP ports, it is incredibly versatile for any small-to-medium scale routing purpose. The software is incredibly feature rich and can be accessed via REST API.This is not a device for beginners, but this has the capabilities of a device that I would expect to cost many times as much.

A beast with issues
It is a power house of a router but it has issues that Mikrotik support aren't willing to acknowledge or fix.

SICK
what a powerful sick router, its head blowing with its features I would give it 50 stars, if you are not an IT person with engineering background, it will be difficult to use some features
