Buddy Guy Tears It Up!
I consider this a must have CD for serious Buddy Guy fans. Although the songs featured are very similar to another Buddy Guy must have, "Collected" (no longer being produced), these are all different takes. While some cuts on "Breaking Out" are more raw than the cuts found on "Collected", some are a little more smooth. Similar to several cuts on "Collected", many of the cuts on "Breaking Out" are characterized by Buddy Guy's amazing control of overdriven guitar amp distortion, a style that I particularly enjoy. I have greatly enjoyed comparing cuts from "Breaking Out" and "Collected." I have seen Buddy Guy four times in concert over the past 8 years, and I can say that the cuts on "Breaking Out" (as well as "Collected") reveal more of his incredible talent than some of his more recent album/CD releases (although I also remain a huge fan of these recent releases - Buddy Guy has a nearly unlimited variety of styles, and he plays each at virtuoso level). Of the 15+ Buddy Guy CD's and several DVD recordings of various and eclectic live performances, "Breaking Out" is a must have for any serious Buddy Guy fan (as is "Collected"). As a bonus (in my eyes), note that the last few cuts on "Breaking Out" feature Buddy's brother, Phil Guy, who is nearly as amazing as Buddy on the guitar and as good as any blues musician with his vocals (other than Buddy, of course). You can't go wrong with this CD! (Note that this CD has been around for some time now although it is now being sold in Digipack form.)

An essential album for any Buddy Guy fan
This is a great example of what was to come when Buddy's career was relaunched with the help of Silvertone in the early 90's with "Damn Right I Got The Blues". It was during the period after Chess Records which restrained his unique free flowing style and the listener can hear what us serious Buddy Guy fans love in his playing. I highly recommend this disk for anybody who has his post 90's discs and wants more music.

Worth owning this album.
This album has unique sound. It is aggressive with the amp turned all the way up to create some saturated distortion. Like it a lot.

As raw as Buddy can be
A reviewer below wrote that it sounds like this album was recorded on a cassette recorder and sounds bad. That's entirely incorrect. The guitar is very fuzzed-out, giving this album a raw feel. The rest of the instruments and vocals are clean and live! In fact, this album is a very good representation of Buddy's live show. It has the raw, often overdriven-amp guitar tone and some nice jam-length solos in there. The music is pure blues and never lets up.A very underrated and neccessary record for any Buddy Guy fan!
