Perfect for my application
I’m not using this in my aquarium. It is a bit noisy so if you’re planning to keep it running full time, it may be too loud for your needs. What I’m using it for though is water changes. I bought a 10 foot piece of 1/2” ID tubing that came with hose clamps and an aquarium fish tank hook (just a pre-bent hollow tube). I have this power head hooked up to one be of the tubing and the hook on the other. When I do water changes I fill buckets up with water and treat them with a dechlorinator then I put the power head in the bucket and the hook in the tank then turn it on to fill the aquarium with the treated water. It just makes the whole process easier and less messy.

Powerful and reliable
Pretty powerful pump. I ordered it to use with my phosban reactor. I tested the phosban reactor with a couple Rio pumps- the plus 90 (85 gph) and the plus 180 (120 gph). Both rio pumps couldn't handle the few feet of rise and throw, but this maxi-jet is more than capable. I use the two little fishes 1/2 inch ball valve (ATL5445W) to restrict flow and get the light tumble I want for the phosban media. The pump is so powerful, I barely have the ball valve open.

Works great
So far its been working like a champ, my tank looks good , the only thing is it tends to get loud sometimes and sounds like its gonna burn itself out...but then stops after a while.

Useful, but not for everyone...
TL;DR: pretty powerful but noisy pump, best used for occasional tasks unless you're deaf or don't mind loud grinding noises. This is a very powerful pump, it works well transferring large amounts of water to and from my many aquariums through my 50ft faucet python. I've used it on water change day several times so far, and the only problem I've had so far, albeit slight, is that it didn't want to pump water through when more than ½ the length of the hose was positioned above the pump itself. When going over a distance like that, it definitely appreciates having some gravity on it's side. Definitely a powerful pump, but it's not infallible. That being said, I would likely never use this particular pump to power something that needs constant power; as a lot of the other reviews have said, it's 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘺 noisy. The motor-head is attached magnetically, which I personally feel is likely what causes the loud grinding/rattling noise (I'm not sure if the Cobalt MJ1200 is the same way). Regardless of why, I would definitely get really tired of hearing it constantly if I were to use it to power a sump or something.

Strong but noisy
Flow is great for the fluval Evo pump I was replacing. Just very noisy. Going to have to figure out something to get it a bit more quiet.

Great find for me!
I purchased a garden fountain 16 years ago, that wasn't pumping any longer. I searched the Internet, but the make and style of the fountain couldn't be found anywhere. I searched for the pump, which was the Max-Jet 1200 that was made in Italy and discontinued. I took my chances and ordered this one. The water started cascading down the fountain before I even had the pond area filled. I used to have to fill the pond and stand and wait for the water to start flowing, which sometimes would require jiggling the pump. I'm delighted with this resolution and that I'm able to keep my fountain, thanks to Maxi-Jet 727085 :o) P.S. I don't find it noisy at all. I'm pumped! heh

Pump buzzes when running
I bought this pump due to great experiences I had with Maxi-Jet pumps years ago when I kept salt-water aquariums. I used this same model bought 5 or 6 years ago to power a fountain on my front porch. The aesthetic quality of the fountain is important so a very quiet pump is needed - and the previous Maxi-Jet pump met this need for many years, running about 12 hours a day.So, an exact replacement was my first go-to when that original pump finally burned up. However, this Maxi-Jet was much more noisy than the one I replaced - so much so that it was very noticeable even over the flow of the water in the fountain. Very distracting. I removed it and replaced it with an EcoPlus 396, which proved to be extremely quiet. I don't know if all Maxi-Jet 1200s are noisy or I just received a defective one; in this case, this pump might be okay for a pond or in an aquarium sump, but I do not recommend it where noise from the pump will distract from its use. If you buy this pump, I recommend you test it for noise level in a sink or bucket before going through the work of a permanent install.

My go to small pump!
I use these where ever I need to move water over 4 feet high! This little Internal/External pump is a work horse, and will never over-heat and melt, it has a thermistor to protect it from overheating due to no water. This pump will shut off and will restart as soon as it has water to cool it down and resume pumping! Never will be a fire danger, like other powerheads that overheat!
