This is a great story about a couple adopting a baby girl from South America. I adopted an older boy, five but now is six, from Ethiopia and he loves this book, though the story is a bit different than his. I think part of it is just seeing that families can be made different ways and it opens up the door to talking about adoption. I was surprised how much he talked while reading this book. He noticed the different skin colors. He asked if we had to wait a long time for him and did everyone ask when he was coming. He spoke of the plane ride. He asked questions about the family in the book. We of course are open about adoption and have talked to him about much of it before, but this book just really triggered him asking questions about his adoption, rather than me talking about it to him.Even if your adoption does match the story, I still think it's worth every penny for kids to see that everyone has their own story about their family. The artwork is colorful and fun, which we both love. The story itself is nicely done and I wouldn't think be offensive to anyone.

Sweet story about adoption of a baby
This is a great story about a couple's journey of adopting a baby in a far away place. The story shows the joy when the parents finally receive the phone call saying their baby is ready to meet them. Once the parents get the baby, they explain that she grew in someone else's belly, but they are going to care for her. It provides a good way to open the door to having a conversation about the joy of adopting a baby.

My 3-year old's favorite adoption book!
Over the Moon is, by far, my son's favorite adoption book. He points to the baby in the picture and shouts "me!" every time we read it. We didn't adopt him from a tropical climate full of beautiful purple flowers, but he doesn't care. He knows we waited and wished for him like the parents in this book and we flew on a plane to get him. For a young child like him that's plenty with which to identify. The message in this book is universal for all internationally adopted children: we couldn't wait to meet you and would have gone over the moon to get you!

Beautiful Illustrations
First, this is a pretty book. My 4-year old likes this book; however, I have changed some of the wording to fit our perspective about adoption. Instead of "the lady" (what odd language) we use birthmother. Also, I skip the "meant to be" theme. I think that is sugar coating the truth a bit much(I'm sure it appeals to the red thread crowd, though). I'm sure my daughter wasn't "meant to be" abandoned, separated from her birthfamily, medical history & orginial culture. I like the book "The Color of Us" by the same author much better.

Kids book about adoption. It’s just as sappy as you think it will be
Good book. It’s all legible and spelled right. Art style is spot on. This is what I really look like

Beautiful, heart-warming book
This is a lovely adoption story, particularly for young children adopted from Central America or South America. The illustrations are beautiful, dynamic and colorful, and the story is gentle and joyous. The story captures the excitement and joy of traveling to bring home an adopted child without dwelling on details, so it is easy to add the specifics of your child's adoption as you read. The book emphasizes the permanence of adoption, and that the child was meant to be the child of the adoptive parents. My 2 year-old daughter, adopted from South America, loves the story, and requests it before nap-time and bed-time.

Nice Illustrations
Nice visual book about intercountry adoption. Presents a fairly typical, simplified story of a couple's journey through intercountry adoption in a very appealing way. It perhaps is too focussed on the parent's story rather than the child's. The language has a very American feel which is a disadvantage for those of us outside the USA.

Ok if adopting from abroad
Not suitable if adopting from own country as this details the journey of parents boarding a plane and staying in hotel.

A LOVELY ADOPTION STORY
I bought this book, among others, for my daughter who is expecting her little girl from China shortly. We loved it! It is one of her favourites along with 'I love you like Crazy Cakes'. I think it shows a young adopted child how much she/he was wanted and how much she/he is loved.

News Flash!
Our child is adopted and we were late in telling our child about the adoption. This book was recommended by other friends who have adopted as a way to ease in the discussion with your child.
