Apple Farmer Annie Review: Sweet, Simple, and Perfect for Little Readers - “This is such a lovely board book. The story of Annie and her apple farm is simple but engaging, and the bright, cheerful illustrations keep my kid’s attention from start to finish. It’s great for teaching about where food comes from — and there’s even a little counting and sorting mixed in. Perfect for fall reading or any time of year. A wholesome story that’s as sweet as the apples Annie sells.” — Praying to the car gods Review: Apple Farmer Annie - As a retired elementary school teacher I am familiar with tons of books. This was a new one for me. My two year old granddaughter loves it. It has great pictures and an engaging educational story. Perfect for the fall. I think it is appropriate for ages 2-6.

Apple Apple
The 1-year-old can say a few words, but his favorite is “apple” so I bought this site unseen. He loves his Apple Farmer Annie board book. He loves it so much that he took it to bed with him the night it arrived and ended up with a welt on his face. Weeks later he still loves it. He carefully turns the pages saying, “apple.” But now we just take the book away from him before he sleeps.

Fun to read for me AND my toddler
My daughter (2 years old now, but started reading this at around 1.5) immediately loved this book. We used to take it out from the library, but we took it out so frequently, I decided to buy a copy. It's true, there isn't a lot of writing on each page, but there are a lot of pictures and there is a lot of potential for storytelling and explanation from the parent, so it is interesting for both of us to go through. Using this book as a jumping off point, we have learned about cooking, seasons, growing food, road signs, animals, etc.

delightful read; excellent message
This is a delightful book and sends an excellent message to young readers as well. I in fact do not think a children's book is required to have a message; it just needs to delight. But the message here is that hard work and being good at something is rewarding, and that's a pretty good message for a young reader to receive. Parents of both girls and boys will appreciate the main character's savvy, entrepreneurial qualities. The illustrations are lovely and bright without being too busy, and the tasty recipes at the end are and added treat. My now four year-old son has gone through two apple picking seasons with this book, and refers to "Apple Farmer Annie" as though she were one of his best pals. I highly recommend this book. Caveat: if you read it to your child in a season other than fall, or if you live someplace where apples don't grow, be prepared to handle the request to visit an orchard!

Great book…BAD packaging from Amazon
Purchased the paperback for my preschool class. It’s a great book story to add to our Apple theme. Only problem is the book is totally bent up and looks like my preschoolers already read it. Not a great start. Very disappointed Amazon on the lack of packing to care for the book.

Richly illustrated, teaches lots of skills
I originally got this as a library book but my son loved it so much I had to buy it. First, each page can open up a conversation lasting several minutes- there are so many details. Apple colors and numbers, ingredients, showing a process or procedure, shapes (in the street signs), and so much more. It teaches about entrepreneurship, pride in your work, using all of the parts of things, and life skills. The illustrations are the naive folksy style which would make them easy to imitate for a child as well. Highly recommend as a gift with some seasonal apples to eat as you read. If this review is helpful to you, I would grateful if you pressed the "helpful" button below! :)

Well written, great artwork.
One of my favorite books for my 3yo daughter. I love how the story is inspiring my little girl to think like an entrepreneur already. We have apple trees at our property and she loves relating to the story. The recipes included in the back are a bonus for me and provide a mother daughter follow up activity!

Annie is an apple farmer in what looks like upstate New York and you follow the process of her growing, picking, sorting, and selling her delicious apples in many forms. The illustrations are so rich, you can spend a lot of time discussing them, counting, and looking for things. They are great prompts to explore concepts further, like going to the supermarket and buying different apples to try or baking at home, or doing basic sums. The book is very attractive and the story is simple but interesting, I think it works for all ages and can grow with your child as they become more aware and inquisitive. Yes, there are some Americanisms in the book like $ in the illustrations when she is at the farmers market, and apple cider referring to the non-alcoholic kind you get in the US but I think that just adds to the educational value. I think children's books are a great chance to teach you child about the world not just their back garden, famers markets are not as common here so I think conceptually it makes sense. It's also nice to see an enterprising female farmer, rather than the very stereotypical farmer images you get in books that seem to provoke little imagination or discussion. I've read reviews that in some versions you get the recipes for her food too, sadly this was not the case with our copy, but we'll have a go anyway I think!

My two granddaughters (ages 1 and 3) and my great-neice (age 4) all loved this book. They liked the details. They had lots of questions and used the vocabulary after reading. They developed an enjoyment for non-alcoholic apple cider :-).

I bought this to read while doing an apple topic and it has captured the imagination of all the children I care for. As well as a charming story, there are many other things to talk about int this book, colours, patterns etc. The book is American, with American spellings, vocabulary and dollar signs so this has been an opportunity to discuss the the similarities and differences between the Uk and America. We love this book!!
