Captivating and inspirational
A stunningly beautiful book bridging East and West. Identifying with Emma and her journey, I was captivated from the start. Uplifting and inspiring, proof that kindness is always possible. Highly recommended.

Good story and cause by a novice nun
Interesting story – and all proceeds go to a good cause. Could’ve been a bit shorter (it was a bit drawn out) and a bit deeper in the questions and seeds it planted for readers who are already pursuing a spiritual path of some depth...and even for those very much caught up in the material world. The book is mainly a fairly-lengthy story of the details of one person’s journey - the journey of a novice nun who seems to be very much at the start of a deeper spiritual quest by the time the book closes.

A wonderful book to share with friends
Emma tells her honest and touching story of how she became the first Western Bhutanese nun. We are all very blessed by her sharing her path. A wonderful book to share with friends.

Wow, what a story
Wow, what a story - A banker who leaves the profession and finds happiness in Buddhism and builds a charity in Bhutan that supports their community. I love stories like this, and I admire her courage to question and pursue her heart’s desire.I would love to meet her and spend time learning about her journey that wasn’t told in this memoir. Even though I loved the story, I was a little disappointed in her writing and felt she provided too little reflection on her internal struggles. I realize she’s not a professional writer, and my focus needs to be more on the beauty of this story, but the flow needed some work, and I thought she focused too much on her outward appearances like her shaved head and clothing. She should have shared more on how her practices helped her deal with her internal questions and struggles. With all that being said, I admire her and would love to meet her someday and want to thank her for introducing me to Bhutan. I now have it on my list of places to visit.

From a devastating ordeal to finding purpose in life
They say mindfulness and a purpose in life do wonders for ones emotional well being. In Set Free, Emma shares a whole lot of her personal experiences in a life threatening situation, and how she overcame the trauma.Makes me want to go back to yoga classes :)

One of the finest, and most inspiring reads you'll find!
I've always enjoyed reading a good book. Mostly autobiographies from my favourite icons and insperations in the world. Since losing much of my vision I don't read nearly as much as I'd like to, mostly because it's become quite a task to do! Then just over a week ago I picked up this little hidden gem by @emma_slade_, I knew I'd enjoy this read, but I never anticipated to such an extent. I became lost in the pages and completed the book in less than a week, and related to many of the words that are written on the pages. It's a very honest and open insight into the world as many of us choose to view it. Being in the "rat race" of working yourself to the bone, so to speak, to finding a new path in life and how we view material things, and our own desires to always want more. Emma is a remarkable human being, and a genuinely kind soul too, and this book will always be on my recommendation list moving forward. If you haven't read this already, please take the time to do so! It's worth every penny! 💙⭐🌈

I heard Emma's interview on the BBC and was very ...
I heard Emma's interview on the BBC and was very much taken with her story and her experience as a hostage in Indonesia. Her writing style is light and flows freely and before you know it you are halfway through the book. Don't proceed too quickly though as you want to reflect on the many changes she faces from being a successful banker to a successful yoga teacher and Buddhist nun. A very moving story eloquently told.

Not impressed
So engrossed in Yoga - that she left her young son with her mother (?) and departed for pastures new.

inspirational
Often books like this are poorly written and are just a vehicle to get a singular message across. This book is not that. This book is well written, well constructed with subtle messages peppered strategically throughout. For me it offered moments for pause and contemplation, as I found myself sitting thinking about what I had just read.
