Using a blend of spices can make food delicious and cooking lots of fun.
A perfectly pretty and right size container for a wonderful new spice. I know it is mentioned in the Holy Bible somewhere, but It is new in my cabinet. I used it when braising pork chops. (Lamb chops would have been ideal.) However, In the mixture of other spices I used in the broth the pork was cooking in I sprinkled the Sumac. It added a subtle but bright flavor as I have never tasted. It was remarkable. I had seasoned the meat with adobo, braised it, then used chicken broth to continue cooking. I used turmeric, oregano, and thyme along with it. I prefer to use less than 1 tsp. of the various spices and there is more of a mellow blend. I added carrots, yellow squash, zucchini squash, onion, ginger, ending with fresh chopped parsley. I like to slightly thicken the sauce before adding the veggies, then I serve it with brown rice. I have made this dish previously with out the Sumac and I can say I really enjoyed the blend of flavors the Sumac gave. The container is very easy to use when you want to measure. O really like to experiment with spices and ingredients that are new to me. This one is a winner. Would like recipes for Sumac.

Fresh and no salt
This USimply sumac is excellent. It definitely is one of the best tasting out of maybe 6 brands I've tried over the years. The grind is slightly coarse so you can see the natural pieces of the original red "drupes" (little fruits like berries with a tiny pit) as they call them. It smells fresh- not like chemicals or like nothing at all! No added salt n the "Original" version I bought is a bonus for me. Salt can be added separately as needed. I am not middle-Eastern but love international spices from many cultures. Sumac is one of my really great finds (after I overcame the initial trepidation that it might be poison sumac - NOT SO - it is a different species of plant. Culinary sumac has red drupes, poison sumac has white ones. Great articles on Wikipedia and elsewhere on the subject).Sumac is perfect where tang but not the acidity of lemon or vinegar is desired. It is not hot like cayenne, for those who do not know. Just a sprinkle brightens the flavor noticeably in soups or veges, or on fish or meat, or with oil on bruschetta, for example, while cooking or just added later as a condiment. It also imparts its own subtle taste beyond just the tangy element. I would and will order from this company again. Sorry for extremely delayed review but still using and enjoying the first bottle moths later.

This lemon substitute is great on fish and terrific for people who can't take acid but miss lemon in their dishes
This lemon substitute is great on fish and terrific for people who can't take acid but miss lemon in their dishes. It is vegan, non GMO and has not MSG or salt. However, it is manufactured in a facility that processes wheat and peanuts. So if you are highly allergic to either of these two I would stay away. I do have a sensitivity to gluten and I can use this but I just don't use a lot.

One of my favorite spices
This is good quality sumac spice. Some say it tastes like "citrus", but it's more like what I'd imagine a smoked raspberry powder to be; tart, bright, but also a little bit smoky and earthy on the finish, without as much sour lingering compared to lemon. It makes a great tea, or a seasoning for chicken or fish, and you can even use a few grams to infuse vodka for something that resembles the flavor of a cosmopolitan. I also like the to use it in place of salt. Overall a versatile and tasty, but under-used, ingredient.

New Great Spice
I am new to Sumac spice. I first got acquainted with Sumac after using the ingredient found in my Sun Basket order (freshly packaged meals to cook at home). This particular product gets high marks for being fresh and nicely packaged. My favorite way to use it is on freshly sliced or diced cucumbers or fresh vegetable stir fry. The Sumac adds great color and flavor to any dish --- vegetable or chicken. So, I'm very pleased with this brand of Sumac spice. It is worth trying! And for me, a little goes a long way.
