Child of the Stars (Thorgal)

I think Cinebook made the right decision in starting their English translations with the two back-story tomes that came a bit later in the original French canon. What I don't understand is why the original first two volumes have still not been translated; perhaps there is a different copyright ownership and complications involved as I did see one from the 90's for over a thousand dollars, from a different publisher. At any rate, by introducing us to Thorgal as a child, I think we bond with him more immediately, as his strong personal values that guide him, come from his early life experiences. The art is gorgeous in both volumes; some of the strongest in the series.

Start with Child of Stars and follow the volumes in order as the stories build on one another. To be sure you can always google Thorgal and the Wikipedia has the correct chronological order of the series in English.In regards to the series: Amazing characters with development, great story lines, fantastic plots, and a balanced amalgam of the past and the future all squeezed into what is called Thorgal. The only negative I see is that the series is behind by more than 50% in translation to English, meaning after you get to number 19 your are stuck till the next one comes out which sometimes maybe a year or more; or if you don't have the patience for the English translations learning French is always an option!!

This is an amazing comic book! The story centers around the main character, Thorgal, his family, and some reoccurring characters. This is comic book is mostly fantasy but lightly incorporates science fiction. The art is also superb.

I love this series. While this is not the first part in the original publishing order, it serves as a great introduction to the followup parts.

My sons and I enjoyed reading the book years ago. Now I'm looking forward to reading it with my grandson!

The best comic series I have ever read. Loved it as a teenager and now passed it onto my son.

Best comic book ever! And it's actually 2 volumes in one

The story is actually decent, but the back story of him being from the stars is just distracting, it does not move the story forward and actually has nothing to do with anything. This could have been a decent story as a straight viking tale, but the space stuff is like it was just threw in for no reason but to make it not a straight viking story
