A great way to learn the bird sounds you hear in the summer.
While there are quite a few birds included that are not around my area, Northern MN. The birds in the book are in order along with the CD. Until I got this book/CD set, all I had was a short CD unit that had one sound per bird. Lang Elliot did a wonderful job of getting the calls or males and females and offers a wealth of information on the birds and there sounds. Who would have known that the sounds of the bald eagle that we've come to know from older movies is actually the sound of a red tailed hawk.It is the many sounds of the common robin that remind me of a very happy time in my life as a child and that has interested me in identifying the myriad of bird sounds that I hear at different times of the day and night. It sounds like the birds are having a party in our yard around 4 a.m. We have lots of trees in our yard which draw in different types of birds. We also have a cabin on a lake, which draws some different birds and ducks. However, with the proliferation of loons in Minnesota as the state bird, along with lots of Northern pike, the duck population continues to drop on most MN lakes. We will see a mother duck early in the season with up to 10 furry ducklings. Then one after another, the ducklings are killed by predators and week by week we see fewer and fewer ducklings, until there are one or none at all. That's the way of nature I guess.I would highly recommend this set to anyone who wants to learn to identify bird calls, as it's a pleasure to listen to.

Amazing photos
I bought 2 of this item as educational gifts for my daughter and granddaughter. I was very impressed by the quality of the photos--really outstanding. I also liked that it included most of the common backyard birds one is likely to see. Both seemed very pleased with the gift. It ought to be a gift that can be used for many years to come. I am now thinking about buying one for myself.

Check to see that the CD is included ...
The book was used and in very good shape, but the CD was missing. There was no mention of the missing CD of bird songs. The book itself is very interesting.Purchased Oct 2019

Excellent for Learning Bird Calls
The quality of the sound on the CD, and the photos are excellent. Our dog and cat thought we were playing the CD for them! Only wish it covered more than 50 birds.

Listening as well as watching
Full page photos of numerous birds are faced by a page of details. What makes this item extra special is the included CD with the call or song of each bird. It's a rare treat to see, hear and read the why's of each bird. It's great.

Lang Elliott at his best
The Songs of Wild Birds by Lang Elliott gives us glimpses not only into the romantic lives of birds, but into the author's life as well. Lang Elliott serves up a sumptious package: lucid, engaging, and informative text, knock-out photos, and a CD to listen to over and over again. Elliott takes the academic study of bird songs and broadens it to include the aesthetic. Bravo!
